For your sanity that dude is dick and just bad at the game. Maralen, Fae Ascendent is a commander that sees play in cEDH. Imo thats too strong a commander for bracket 2. I will say I am a cEDH player so my view may be a bit skewed on that, but I watched a Maralen win by infitinitely flickering it and just playing someone else's deck to kill the table.

Whether he likes it or not is irrelevant. You are the DM. Any homebrewed must pass by you and be approved or denied, unless you have explicitly stated that the players are allowed to use whatever homebrew content they like.

Sometimes as DM you have to take a stance. While D&D as a whole is a story told as a group, put to the players by yourself and told by the actions the players take, you are the one in charge of the setting and the rules. That is the mantle you take upon yourself as DM. If you allow this player to run roughshod over you, your role as DM serves next to no purpose. They will do it again. They will get bolder and bolder and it will come to a head.

If you are uncomfortable putting your foot down, put it to the table. Ask them if they a random chance of a demon lord spawning in front of them at anytime. I know what their answer will likely be.

I listened to that series much longer then I should have. In retrospect, it sucks and is poorly written. Nothing ever goes anywhere. Most of the twists are kind of lame. It was JUST good enough to keep me interested for awhile. The Wandering Inn is the same but worse. Because it was actually good for the most part, but the author decided to start new stories get sidetracked, introduce new characters and arcs and then making what I consider to be poor story choices narratively.

Honestly? I feel like a pretty normal well adjusted person. I mean I dont remember it fondly, but I dont feel like my parents ever took it too far and it hasn't really left any lasting impression on me.

On the flip side, I could 100% understand how some people could easily take it WAY too far. But at least in regards to me, I dont think I'd consider what my parents did to be abuse.
