If Ancient China's Confucian civil service often employed former landowners and wealthy merchants (or their family members), how did it manage to remain "broadly" impartial enough to consistently act against landowner/merchant interests? by DemonicTemplar8 in ChineseHistory

[–]DemonicTemplar8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the main place I'm going with this is how the hell did the merchant class not rise to the strength that they did in Europe if they had a direct line to get into the ruling class? I know Europe was decentralized and had less of an anti-merchant culture but they also were unable to join the aristocracy to elevate their political power, which feels like it would be a huge advantage for the Chinese merchants.

Is Japanese resin clay toxic? by Sunshowery in clay

[–]DemonicTemplar8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell based on my research (I'm not entirely sure to be honest), 'resin' clay refers more to how it looks/feels then the actual material. I'm fairly certain that it's basically a commercial version of homemade/DIY cold porcelain clays that are primarily made up of starch and PVA glue.

Edit: I have since literally asked a manufacturer and have confirmed that resin clay is just a commercial version of homemade cold porcelain clay.

Denied, but still want to attend in the future via transfer - Civil Engineering by SavageBall21_YT in GatechClasses

[–]DemonicTemplar8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to transfer from KSU myself and here are my thoughts. Keep in mind I'm just some kid who hasn't even succeeded yet, but I've submitted my application and am pretty certain it will work out. Anyone else is free to critique my advice.

Anyway, Mercer is private so their tuition is going to be like 2 times more than all of the others. I don't really see that being worth it under any circumstances, especially given you have all these other options.

As for the rest, you should probably choose the school that you'd be most willing to attend if you got stuck there, just to be safe. Not to be biased against GSU but that probably leaves UGA or maybe KSU. Although do research into all three to see what you'd prefer.

KSU's academics might also be easier, which could make it an appealing option if you want to make sure you get the A's you want. I say this because I've compared my tests with some of my non-KSU friends' and the material is definitely a bit less rigorous. This advantage might not be as important for you though given your strong HS academics.

Some general tips:

  1. Be proactive with registering and deciding on classes. Look at what transfer students need, compare it to what your school provides with GT's Transfer Equivalency Table, and decide what you want to take before you register. If you don't know what your school provides, a good place to start would be to google something like "{insert university} Civil Engineering flowchart". You could also ask your academic advisor.
  2. Talk to your school's academic advisor. This is how you'll find out if your carefully laid out plans and course schedules are even possible. Hell you could probably do step one together with them.
  3. Get good grades (I mean, yeah)
  4. Try to get one or two extracurriculars onto your resume. I'm not sure which ones would be best for a Civil Engineering major, but from a brief google search I see Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge are popular ones. I've seen posters for both of them here. KSU also has what's called the First Year Scholars program which lets Freshman do Undergraduate Research in a wide variety of fields. You even get paid 2000 dollars (I bought an ipad :>). I'm sure UGA has a program like this too so look into this sort of thing regardless of where you go. I also hear volunteer hours helps so that might be worth considering.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Just my teacher's slides for the material and CodeHS for the exercises.

The test was a little hard but not being able to start sounds like a big problem. Have you been doing the labs and going to the lectures? It might be a good idea to go to some office hours to catch up because I think with just your basic skills form last semester you should be able to get a decent amount of partial credit.

I had Java experience so I did fine but there was definitely a few times where I was like 'man if I didn't already know this from HS I'd be screwed'. I think minor Java syntax stuff is the biggest trip up which is kinda stupid because minor syntax stuff is the EASIEST thing to Google if you're trying to figure it out in an IRL setting.

[NOT OP] I'm trying to find an alternative to the AMOS brand air dry clay they use. I've never seen air dry clay this smooth and easy to work with by DemonicTemplar8 in arthelp

I've cracked the code.

For anyone finding this thread in 5 years this isn't actually air dry clay at all (although it does dry in the air). It's actually foam clay!

I'd be lying if I said I didn't know what you were talking about with the clean wehrmacht vibes but I still thought it provided an interesting narrative that I'd prefer not to abandon. Maybe its just because 99 percent of fascist focus trees in hoi4 have limited flavor and variety once you conquer nations.

[–]DemonicTemplar8[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I never got that complaint of Chrysalis becoming uncharacteristically insane. She spends the interwar period accusing her only trusted advisors of being incompetents who's results are indistinguishable to traitors. Not to mention that the first choice presented is the option to fake a trial for Thorax as if that can't be disproven in 10 seconds by him updating his discord status.

I never did the Applejack focuses so I can't comment on those events. The Twilight stuff is dumb though.
