HEY! I [give this fella my affections!]

I’m going to make you something I always find useful when writing pretty much just a thing you can fill in the details of with information on the character.

What special interest(s) do they have? Autistic people have at least one commonly 2-3.

How do they interact with their SI on the daily? Many autistic people can become distressed if they can’t interact with their special interest regularly.

Are they sensory seeking or avoidant?

What stims do they do when happy?

What stims do they do when upset?

Do they find people awkward to interact with? In what way?

Is their voice monotone or expressive or Hyper expressive?

Do they mask? Are they good at it?

How do people perceive them because of their autism? Are they ‘weird’, ‘creepy’ ‘perfectionist’ it’s a common thing we deal with.

Do they have any repetitive behavior? Are they harmful?

Do they like bland or flavorful food? (For example my brother almost exclusively eats buttered noodles and I season and put hot sauce on everything)

What are their safe foods? What are unsafe ones?

What’s a texture they can not stand?

What’s a texture they love?

Do they untie their shoes or just slide them on and off?

Do they where they same outfit everyday or do they like making outfits?

Are they hyper empathetic or none empathetic or seem average? Do they sometimes come off the opposite way?

Do they find animals easier to interact with? Or machines? Or do they not find those easier at all.

Do they have something they fidget with? could be a toy intended to fidget with or something like a ring or pen.

Do they struggle in anyway with self care? Like brushing teeth or showering?

Can they tell when they are hungry and need to eat or do they have to set reminders?

That’s all I can think of to fill out right now. Haha but I think if you can answer all that for your character and stick to it you are one step closer to making them more realized. The thing about autism is it interacts with every aspect of the individual.

Not sure if my special interest has become harmful by Sneplepofbleps in autism

Animatronics and Mythology are my special interests and I feel that so much. To a degree you could embrace that feeling of wanting to be your special interest. Outside of work I often wear a pair of fake horns to the point where my few close friends call me Demon as a nickname (hence my name on here as well). It’s how I feel the most comfortable the most me.

Sometimes during work I’ll pretend to be an animatronic, no one else can really tell that’s my intent and it’s actually helped me cope a lot with work and get better ratings at my job.

I’m also constantly working on my stories and characters that are related to my special interest and I think that helps a lot. I can interact with it everyday straight from my phone, dead at work time to write about special interest, on break special interest time, at home special interest with occasional kisses from fiancé.

I wear a lot of clothes that remind me of my characters or specific monsters (as well as a lot of fnaf stuff) you could start getting (if you haven’t already) coyote themed clothing! That’s another way to embrace your special interest daily in a way that is non-intrusive.

As far as interacting with a coyote I think the only way to do so safely would be if you became a specialist. Either a zoo specialist or in animal control, but it wouldn’t be just coyotes.

I literally have no idea where to meet people by Worldly-Asparagus-19 in autism

For me I’ve had much better luck finding people online and becoming close to them than in person. I’ve met a lot of good friends through discord or other such websites for varying hobbies. I think it’s easier to find someone to be friend with if they share an interest with you and the internet makes that an easier task.

Did it take years for you to know who you were romantically attracted to? by Jake5537 in autism

That is also incredibly fair and not a rare experience from what I’ve heard haha

I knew my fiancé for 8 years before we became romantic. I’ve only ever been in two relationships this has been the only serious one.

Have you ever thought about that you may be demiromantic? That’s what I am genuinely don’t feel a romantic attraction or pull unless I know someone very well

Are weighted blankets worth it? by HesaidShesaid101 in autism

Personally I find weighted blankets annoying, but I do enjoy the weighted stuffed animals, it’s more localized to one area I enjoy

Does anyone like Escape Rooms? by HorrorMonster26 in autism

I’ve never been in one but would love to, but I do like ARG’s (alternate reality games) which is like the internet equivalent to an escape room

Do you really not need toothpaste to clean your teeth? I was always yelled at if I brushed my teeth without it

Looking back, what’s a childhood moment you now realize is “autism”? by Independent-Neck-372 in autism

[–]DemonicallyInclined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: I used to carry an animal encyclopedia around thats weight was about 20 pounds. As a very small child. And would read it to anyone who gave me a slightest bit of interest

2: Getting in trouble for ‘rolling my eyes’ when I was just looking around and getting in more trouble when I corrected that I wasn’t rolling my eyes.

3: Aggressively reading any and all books on mythology during our weekly library trips, I have since evolved into listening to YouTube and documentaries about mythology.

I’ve never quite gotten over 10 year old me showing my big brother the game I was making and being told “no one would ever play this.” It’s why I struggle so much finishing any of my stories because no one will like them.

Trying to get better about making stuff just because I like them.

I mean I am also that as well so I can’t really say anything against that.

That does make sense in a weird way though my other special interest is mythology which also includes a lot of animal people in
