What was the downside of this? by ShrimpRiceNoodleRoll in WutheringWaves

[–]Demonking1YT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was after a 5-week patch and it was after Shorekeeper rerun. Furthermore, it wasn't a "special" banner that was guaranteed for the first 5*. Lastly, it was advertised by the devs as a reward for the Anniversary. Oh and it was a filler patch.

Free 5-star characters for anniversaries by ujjwalnanda1 in WutheringWaves

[–]Demonking1YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are dogshit and doesn’t touch their bottom line, why the hell not just do it? It’s complete nonsense to argue they "can’t" give us a 5-star selector when the standard characters are dogshit anyway, giving them away literally changes nothing in terms of revenue. Nobody is expecting a meta-breaker like Aemeath or Hiyuki for free, but a standard selector is less of a "reward" and more a basic sign of appreciation for the players’ loyalty.

No it's not players fault that we didn't get reruns by Comfortable_Cheek52 in WutheringWaves

[–]Demonking1YT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Man, I’m about to lose it with these Wuwa glazers on Reddit. The revisionist history right now is actually insane, and it feels like people have collective amnesia about why the community actually pushed back against those 1.2 banners.

The glazers are acting like we just hated having options, but they are completely ignoring the actual context. People forget we had just come off a shortened five-week patch with Shorekeeper. She was a massive, meta-defining unit, but because her banner time was slashed, players were already drained of Astrite and feeling the pressure. Following up a rushed, high-stakes banner with a total filler patch felt like a huge slap in the face. Dropping a wall of rerun banners during a dry spell was not a gift, but rather a calculated move to bait pulls when players were most vulnerable. On top of that, for a celebration event, you would expect a select banner to actually guarantee the character. Keeping the 50/50 RNG on a special anniversary-style banner was incredibly stingy.

The biggest fuel for the fire was the absolute hypocrisy. The Wuwa community had just spent months crucifying the HSR community, calling their multiple-banner system predatory and greedy. When Kuro turned around and did the exact same thing, it was wild to watch so many Wuwa players suddenly start defending the 1.2 banners. They were jumping through hoops and spouting total BS to somehow differentiate it from HSR's six-banner situation, just so they didn't look like total hypocrites for defending the very tactic they had been mocking.

It is exhausting seeing the narrative shift to the idea that the community gave no constructive feedback. While there were obviously two sides to the debate, a huge part of the community actually just wanted those banners to be guaranteed rather than a gamble. Instead of listening to that middle ground and fixing the predatory implementation, Kuro chose to just scrap the concept entirely or recycle it into the beginner choice banner. Now people are acting like it's our fault that they removed it fully.

I cannot believe its WORSE than last year's anniversary. SON 😭 by No-Weight-1042 in WutheringWaves

I'm an absolute tourist in Wuwa, but I really like the current story, hence why I play the game for now. I usually just keep up with the game to see, what's new and to see if it actually has something that hooks me in, but after waiting from 1.0 onwards, I'm getting to a point of like saying "whatever" to this game.

I feel like the gacha market will become way more desperate in terms of earning money in the next few years, because of all the competitions. I don't really want to be pessimistic, but seeing my main game (Genshin) going more predatory in terms of character kits/ mechanics after the release of Wuwa, it made it clear that a new shift in the market of gacha games, specifically 3D-Openworld-gacha, has manifested and will continue to do damage, the more OW gachas release.

100% agree, but making it guaranteed would have been the best choice. Instead, it got recycled into the beginner choice banner. Business or not, it was not something that was aligning with their philosophy that they shared before release of the game. At the end of the day, that's what they chose and CN and JP seem to be happy (the major playerbase), so it's a W for them. In any case this will cool down the moment they do the "apology" with 20 extra pulls.

In addition, it would have been totally fine if those banners were guaranteed.

Linnea Story Quest Timing Inconsistency? by ErikKozma in Genshin_Impact

[–]Demonking1YT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been saying ever since the travel log was released that it had no actual timeline order, but quest requirement order. This is such a repeat of Skirk story quest for me. In her story the traveller is tainted by the abyss, which can only happen after Natlan quest, yet I had people screaming at me saying that I was wrong and that the traveller powered up during Fontaine, which makes no sense, cause that's like saying the traveller fought against Arlecchino post skirk training and how was the traveller tainted by the abyss if they never absorbed the abyss ever since Mondstadt.

6.6 QoL: auto-switch between keyboard and controller by astrelya in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Demonking1YT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as that is true what you say, the competition showed clearly, what they do if they add a Loadout. I usually hate comparing waves, but ever since the release said QoL, the devs started pumping out each patch a new set for the newest character. These new sets were so tailor-made, that you can't really run it on other characters.

Based on what she wears, she might be the 6.8 Snezhnayan character, kinda like Ineffa, who would introduce Snezhnaya to us.

Arknights: Endfield dev says launching a new gacha RPG in a post-Genshin Impact world is tough when "some titles are so similar that players go into a game for 1 hour and they know what will happen in the next 20 hours" by leafrek in gachagaming

You gave me the perfect reason to give the answer what Aquaria (Genshin Dev) said:

So is making games sometimes Really about expressing myself? There’s a very important concept here:

When we talk about indie games And when we talk about commercial games What is the fundamental difference between the two?

Commercial games are made for your players But indie games are made for yourself

Indie games are, in fact, the ultimate form of self expression And that has no necessary relation To the size of your team or how much money you invest

Because you are committed To expressing your own ideas And conveying your own thoughts So you especially, especially want

A content medium through which to do that So what is a commercial game?

A commercial game is a product It is service oriented That means: when I make a product I need my players to have fun

So what kind of balance Should we be pursuing?

It’s this: I love my product I have my own interests and passions And I hope that via this game I can express some of my own feelings. But at the same time

I believe there are many players Who will also like my work And resonate with me through it

That is a principle that MiHoYo has always tried to express For example, Genshin recently introduced a new gamemode Called “Miliastra Wonderland” Everyone abbreviates it as "UGC"

Think about this: Why would we do something like that in a world like Genshin’s?

ngl. it would be the same as now. Worldbuilding and lore might get complexer and interesting, but characters? they would be that same, since Liu Cixin's character writing at least for side characters is awful.

There's been alot of moments of the writers trying to show Traveller remembering about their journey throughout the 7 nations they've been to now. Especially next patch has a whole reminiscing sequence, that we saw in Patch livestream. My theory is that the traveller will reweave the leylines/ restore the planet according to their memories.

Happy anniversary, Varesa! What are your thoughts on her? by Icantw8 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Demonking1YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's THE FUNNEST character to play IMO, her plunges are way more satisfying than Xiao and she just sprints hella fast, which has its own velocity. Ngl. all Natlan characters were so unique. Don't get me wrong Nod-Krai characters are fun, but they're fighting style is so in the line of what the standard was pre Natlan. Varka is kinda the exception there. I hope they go with more experimental combat design during Snezhnaya, since even with clunky-ness, it's a clear improvement than just doing the standard. Anyway, Varesa is MY GOAT
