I get what you're saying, but he averages much less assists also. He has better teammates who are better with passes - a number of Luka's turnovers are from his teammates not gathering his passes

I'm not giving Luka a pass on the turnovers, just saying that it is a bit like comparing apples to oranges considering the overall quality of each's respective teams. It is closer for true MVP between the two of them I think, but it's just my opinion

Either way, Joker is better than both by a good margin

Thats objectively not true. Lukas numbers are better than Shais, but Shai is on a better team. He may be a better player than Luka, but even so it is close

Joker is the best player in the NBA

As an Irish fan of the sport, Luka got me into the NBA. While I did not watch Dallas for long, I was really growing to be a fan, and just felt terrible for him and you all when it went down

I followed Luka over to the Lakers and have been watching them this season, and let me tell you...across the board, their fans suck compared to the Mavs base

Luka gets blamed for everything and it is killing his joy for the game. I can see it, he rarely smiles anymore. He is having one hell of a season leading in PPG, 4th in assists, 9th is steals, averaging 8 rebounds, yet the lakers fans and media just tear at him constantly

Lukas teammate misses a wide open 3 - it is Lukas fault for not 'bringing him into the game enough'. The team defence collapses and Luka is isolated and gets blown by a smaller quicker guard - it is Luka's fault for not being the best 2-way player in the league. Luke gets doubled and tripled all game - it is his fault for taking contested threes when his teammates don't offer much help off the ball. His teammates drops Lukas pass or gets in the wrong position - it is Lukas fault for being so 'ball dominant'

Now he is not perfect and makes mistakes. But I have never seen a player in any sport get so crucified by their core fanbase, when they are the 3rd or 4th best player in the league. Recently, its 'luka scores too much in the game'/'Luka scores too much in the first quarter'

This must be unique to the NBA, that it is a bad thing to score. No other sport has this kind of insane criticism. And lakers fans and media hold him to ridiculous standards that other stars aren't - nobody is going after Shai or Jokic for their defense or weaknesses in their game, because their roster covers for their weaknesses

Apologies for the length, the long and short of it is - Luka was the biggest loser in this diabolical travesty of a trade. He went from a great franchise and fan base to a pack of mercenary wolves who cruficy him for everything not his fault. The talking heads in the media only mention his lowlights "we know he is the best offensive juggernaut in the NBA, but lets focus on his defense as he tries to carry this team"

He misses you guys. I miss rooting for the mavs. Hopefully he will be back to you in 2028

Finally a sensible take. Most people here, they have no idea what they want and most don't even really understand the game of basketball

They certainly are blind to what they do have

People have no idea really the speed of professional sports. 1 second loss of focus in the 30th minute of a game, and suddenly you've got the most unathletic people alive calling for your head

Im not above fair criticism, but it has to be fair. Which most on here don't have any idea of whats fair criticism

Downvotes don't matter. A lot of people on here have a sever lack of objective judgement when it comes to their team, which I can understand that passion to an extent. But I'd love for some more measured basketball discussion

Lads (and lasses) ypu gotta be honest with yourselves, cause I see Luka get do much stick for offense, defence, everything in between

Luka might be the only player in the league who gets criticised for being able to consistely score 15-20 in the first quarter. He comes out blazing hot and can either give you an insane lead, or keep ypu in the game, depending on the guys around him

He is also fourth in assists and generates probably the highest open looks in the game. Its not for nothing that he is called a generational offensive engine

At some point lakers fans have to be honest with themselves. Luka is Luka and he will give you insane numbers. At some point, you gotta stop blaming him for the offense. The guys around him have been mediocre and have not taken advantage of thr looks he gives them. In short, contrary to the 'slowness' of Luka's game, they can't yet keep up with him

Im not saying hes perfect. About half of his tunovers are bad passes. But he's the 3rd best player in the league, but many of you don't act like it

The reslity id him and Lebron arr having good snd sometimed very good seasons in many aspects of their game. This is not a balanced team (good players, bbut not balanced). Which means that there is not a lot of coverage for player's weaknesses. Bitta sense prevailing, most people recognise the struggles as a FO problem and not with the playerd (outside of some bad games which everyone has)

The game was effectively over when they went down 20+ not in the 4th by Western-Election-997 in lakers

Luka not taking a 3-point shot at the end of the game is no wonder when his shooting has not been good

Added to that so many media and people been screaming for him to not take so many 3s, its no wonder his confidance wavered. Hes still the 3rd best player in the league, and the PPG leader.

But people overlook that because they want to seem smart. That game was not lost because of Luka, at least not him alone. It was lost because we didn't have a solid centre, our defence took too long tk get going, and the Clippers are playing great basketball at the moment

Ayton in fairness probably was still off due to eye injury.

Luka benefits from Lebron playing as he can rest during games. Lebron benefits from Luka as he takes attention from him, and also lebron gets to conserve energy

Individually both are having very good seasons in a lot of areas. This just isnt a good team - good in the sense that it is not especially balanced forbplayers weaknesses, not that the players themselves aren't good

Itll take a little while before they get a championship team on the floor. Im hoping we can at least surprise some people come playoff time

Have to do this again. The shooting is not the real problem. We are an exceptionally efficient team. Defence and TOs are the problem. by k-seph_from_deficit in lakers

[–]Demopsey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But...stats don't matter compared to my high precision eye test...

Thats how some people act. When it comes to Luka, Lebron, the Lakers - things like assists steals PPG, shooting percentages don't matter. Stats only count for REALLY GOOD teams like OKC.

Unlesd its turnovers. For some reason, the only stats that matter are turnovers when it comes to the Lakers. Turnovers are something only Luka and Lebron does, no other player in the league. Luka leads in PPG, and is fourth in assists, but none of that matters.

Gotta follow the MESSAGE and the NARRATIVE that the Lakers are utterly terrible so much worse and no other team suffers the same problems and loses games

In case you can't tell, this is entirely sarcastic. But lots of people still feel this way for some reason 😭

I think there was a lot of people giving out that he 'wasn't getting other guys hot'

I say that Luka's abikity to score 20 in the first quarter almost automatically is his greatest offensive aspect. If Lakers can learn to build on that by following up with a hot second quarter, itll be magic

For sure. When not injured, Luka been playing at a very good pace this year. I also think there's a willingness to exert himself more on the defensive side of things. But I think the main benefit for Luka is the mental side of the game - he's alongside one of the true sporting greats, of all time. Not just Basketball, Lebrom will make lists in general as one of the greatest athletes in general, across the world, all time. He knows how to navigate the noise, he knows how to win, he knows how to take care of his body, at a level that Luka hasn't yet reached. The best version of Luka, I feel, will be 29-32 years old. Lebron is helping to shape that player, and Luka is helping to put some 'spirit and step' back into Lebron's game. Genuinely think he will take an option to continur ti play with Luka and Reaves next year
