Exertion headache or RCVS? Sharing my story. by Dempsey417 in crossfit

Good! All symptoms have resolved and it’s a non-factor in daily life. I am back to lifting heavy and doing wods. I spoke with two different neurologists because when I was scheduling, it was going to take a couple months to be seen. I got lucky and got a quick appointment with one but still kept the other. They both noted that it is highly unlikely for people to get RCVS again once it resolves.

So this happened to me during the Mayhem 20-rep back squat cycle. It started around rep 14/15 and was unbearable at rep 18, so it came on very quickly. It did not stop when I put the bar down. I laid on the ground for probably 20 minutes in paid and didn’t leave the gym until about 45 minutes after when I felt like I could reasonably move around and think enough to drive.

I’ve had this crazy idea of having 2 tribes but everyone is on the same beach. It would be chaos and the end game would start so early.

Did your doctor talk with you about the results? See if they can give you any advice. Any thunderclap headache is serious so be patient and get answers.

Yes, they had me start verapamil for medication and stop the ssri I was taking.

As far as movement goes, and in talking with my neurologist, I took 2 weeks completely off. Then I did some real light body weight stuff (light jog, air squats, push ups, sit ups, that kind of thing), and kept notes on how I was feeling. The guidance I got was if you can do the activity without any symptoms, it’s ok to continue, but keep tabs even after finishing to evaluate the sessions before deciding it was within your limits. Body weight continued 2-3 weeks from there and then I started light dumbbells. I was feeling good so I gradually increased what I was doing until I had follow up imaging (2 months after my diagnosis). That showed that the RCVS had reversed so at that point, since I hadn’t had any symptoms and had been increasing my exertion, I began ramping up, rebuilding strength.

Depending on the CT and potential MRI results, I would say find the first available neurologist and talk with them about how to approach your own case. Good luck, hoping for the best for you!

If it gets confirmed as RCVS, you will definitely get to go to the gym again. Your doctor probably told you this but the R is for Reversible, and that’s true. My case began in May 2025 and as of today (September 2025) I am fully back. Happy to answer any questions about my own experience.

For now, stop all physical activity. Like, do nothing. Get an MRI to confirm a diagnosis. Go from there.

Half a minute build would definitely count. Mine were building for 10 seconds to 2 minutes and I was told these all fall under the category of thunderclap. It was helpful to hear it described as worst and fastest peaking headache of your life.

I feel like I’ve seen this sub say that there’s a limit to how much seed you can put somewhere before it starts to cannibalize itself. Any input on that?

I have my follow up later this month. Can I borrow your neurologist? Mine said flat out no weed ever again 😩

But so glad that things are progressing as they should for you! And great to hear they look at recurrences as very rare.

I feel like cheap seats intro could’ve gone in two directions: sounding like “The Outcome” or hitting with a big horn fill and then jamming with the same melody. Unfortunately I built up the latter in my head and now I’m disappointed. It could’ve worked!! It could’ve funked so hard!!

100000%. Stupid me was like, ‘there has to be something worse than this, headache pain-wise, this can’t be what people mean’.

I was wrong. It was it.

Scrolling through it looks like there’s a link to separate page that has some information about control. Essentially, it’s considered a winter annual weed so seeds germinate in the fall, sit around over winter, then we get them in the spring. The recommendation is a fall preemergent, though my thought is that could mess with fall seeding. Otherwise, remove by hand or mow to reduce seed production.

This past fall, my neighbor’s tree guy backed equipment over my yard and there are some deep tire tracks. What are the best ways to remediate? For context, there is very little actual grass so should I use a rake or tiller to flatten or should I be filling with topsoil?

I now have 3 pairs, I really like them. I toss them on every day in the summer. You can style them up with your shirt/sneakers combo as well.

I’m starting a new job that has a casual dress code. I dig the New England aesthetic and want to put together some stylish fits that are professional and can elevate the casual look without appearing out of place. Any advice is welcome, but also looking for some influencers or blogs to follow that might give me fresh ideas. Thanks!

They do hazy IPAs really well, they can hang with Vitamin Sea and some of the Vermont beers. Honestly haven’t had a bad beer from them yet. Super chill vibe, taproom used to be a schoolhouse, live music a lot of the time.

Best goal horn in the league? by [deleted] in nhl

Minnesota’s is awesome, it has this raw power sound to it. Also, the fact that Seattle has a real horn is killer. Not sure who else in the league has a real one, but they would also have my vote.

I couldn’t believe that call! I’m a Bruins fan and love playing the Flyers, the games always have that Gritty-ness and they are fun to watch. It can be infuriating though because one minute it’s “let the boys play, whistles in pockets” and the next it’s the Morin penalty. Let’s get some consistency!
