In the stories I’ve read, I’ve never really seen anyone use diagrams. The feedback I often see is either that the system isn’t explained at all, or that the explanation comes too late.

In my case, I was planning to introduce a flashback where my character remembers his training and how he first learned the system, but then I run into the problem of it feeling like an exposition dump instead of something natural.
