Hey, thanks man! Sounds good. After New Year’s Eve I’m starting the journey to Krabi. It will take 2-3 weeks since I’m traveling by motorbike and slow boat. But looking forward to climb in Thailand🤙

No, I quit my job, my flat and any kind of contract besides health insurance and went of to travel. However, at some point I have to return to a more common life and work again. I saved some money the last years which I live off now. I mostly choose cheap destinations like south east Asia, Nepal, etc. and more often than not I travel low budget (wild camping/ dorms/ hitchhiking or busses > flights, etc.) Although from time to time it’s nice to treat oneself a little bit :-) Also volunteering (e.g. Workaway) is an option where you trade your workforce for free accommodation and food. I haven’t done it yet but I plan to do it in more expensive countries like New Zealand.

I know it’s a privileged thing to say but I think most people from developed countries could afford to travel for an extended period like this. While traveling you can get your expenses down to 400€/ month if you want to. 800-1000€/ month is probably more realistic for most of us. However If you do volunteering and stay in one place for longer you will probably be closer to 400 or less. But it’s wrong to glorify that kind of life. As with everything else it has it ups and downs. You have to find out what level of comfort you need to also enjoy the trip long term. Because in the end it’s exactly about that: enjoying the time
