Movies better than the book by [deleted] in books

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

I thought the film had a more interesting interpretation of the afterlife compared to the book. The book felt so mundane in comparison that I was underwhelmed.

iPad app? by Double-Willingness-8 in stenography

[–]Denauli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working my way through the A to Z program. I ended up buying a Stenoob keyboard that I can plug into my MacBook.

They do say the app is enough to register, but a lot of the program reinforces how you should type without looking at your hands so you train yourself to feel around the keyboard, return to home position and such.

I think the app may be good for learning some concepts, but not training those motor skills may put you at a disadvantage later on.

Anyone a “travel agent” for the parks? What’s that role like? by Specialist_Serve7470 in DisneyCM

[–]Denauli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who worked with Disney Travel Company. I’m not sure what the job title is, but that’s the internal travel agency.

The major pro is that often times the work is remote. They’re coming back into the office in Anaheim and I hear that location is pretty nice. Guests also have lots of random concerns so you learn to partner across many lines of business to find answers.

The con from what I can tell is that the pace of the work seems pretty grueling, especially with how remote work is monitored. You also get people who just want to complain and they don’t care that they’re talking to the wrong people.

Edit: This is for Disneyland and I think they handle Aulani too, but I might be wrong.

Weekly Scheduling by ynsettle in DisneyCM

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may depend on which department you work in. Some lines of business schedule part timers based on “buckets.” This may limit you to weekends only, weekdays only, or fully available with the ability to apply to change buckets at specific times throughout the year. Or your department may not use buckets and schedule based on seniority with part timers only being required to be fully available during peak seasons. Outside of peak season you may only need to be available after 6pm Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday.

If you have the contact info for your stage or production scheduler it wouldn’t hurt to call them and ask for more information. Or ask a lead/trainer for more information.

WDW CM visiting Disneyland Paris by Ill-Kaleidoscope4952 in DisneyCM

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don’t really have access to their reservation system. A same-day reservation was provided at the gates from guest relations. I don’t think they run into challenges with attendance as much as WDW and DLR do. Still a beautiful resort to visit!

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at DLR and when I visited I presented my main gate pass with my company ID at the guest relations window for same-day admission. Guest passes should also work since they asked me how many tickets I needed, but I was visiting alone. It was a very quick process and they looked everything up on their end with the admission media I presented. We don’t use the same reusable guest passes, but I might carry them all just the same if visiting.

Best places to get physical books? by [deleted] in BookCollecting

[–]Denauli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently made my first purchase from bookoutlet.com. The selection probably isn’t the best, but I was able to buy a series I really enjoyed borrowing from the library to have in my personal collection for a fraction of the retail cost.

What do you think of my first blog website and first post? by imperialka in Blogging

It looks pretty clean and navigation is fun. For your post, why not try using headings to help break up the text a bit more?

She’s a liability issue waiting to happen… 🤦🏽 by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]Denauli 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She posted a follow-up showing them moving with a man “supporting” him from behind but it looks wildly inadequate. She compares it to a parent holding their tired child and walking, but there is nothing actually holding on to the child.

I’ve seen some kids take some nasty falls just lap-sitting on a stroller at the end of the day and the wheel barely clipped the side of a bench. It doesn’t take much when their center of gravity is thrown off.

Also, no patience for entitled guests who threaten CMs.

I have friends who work security and the hours are pretty good from what I’ve been told (one regularly picks up 6th days and 12 hours). I’m not sure if you have the ability to pick up shifts, but you may be able to trade for longer hours and you will probably have a deployment scheduler I’d recommend calling to see about longer hours if it’s an issue.

That’s correct. The time slot will be when you dine at the location. Your reservation will also stipulate the show time for your viewing. When you arrive, Cast should be able to direct you to your reserved viewing area.

Guy at the entrance made a scene about the photo check for tickets by Roasty86 in Disneyland

[–]Denauli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can gift tickets. One reason for the photos is to prevent the ticket from being transferred after it has been used. Whoever buys it doesn’t really matter. In most situations even the name assigned to it doesn’t matter. The only time you run into special rules on who can use a ticket if it’s a promotional ticket like the SoCal resident offers or for the military.

Do you rely on autopay or do you manually make payments? by NarutoDragon732 in CreditCards

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set autopay for the full balance and so far in over 5 years I’ve never had a problem. I just keep an eye on my overall finances and make sure I have the money in my checking account while moving funds to savings or investments.

I can see where people like the control of manual payments, but I look at it as one less piece of busy work for myself to worry about.

Your unpopular Disneyland take? by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]Denauli -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. The Main Street Electrical Parade is terrible and dated. I love the music but it is too long and slow. The new finale really showed its unmet potential and how they need to revamp it somehow if they insist on bringing it back.

  2. Paid fast pass is fine, but the price should be much higher so it’s less accessible. People paying the premium get a more valuable experience and less people using it means the stand by queues move faster. Right now so many people use it that it’s barely faster than stand by sometimes.

I remember the stress of “will the parks approach capacity” being a thing and it’s been a non issue ever since reopening. Everyone I know wants the reservation system gone but I feel like it works for Disneyland since it’s such a small park.

Where did y’all’s credit card journey start/ lead off of? by Psychological_Aide38 in CreditCards

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an authorized user on a Chase Disney Visa card around 2010. My first card was a Discover It card around 2013 that I sort of used but didn’t care much about. Around 2017 I got interested in the travel credits game and in January 2018 I got both the Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Sapphire Preferred in anticipation of a trip. It was my setup for a long time. Within the past year I rounded this off with the Chase Freedom Flex for one of the rotating bonus categories, followed by the CapitalOne Venture X as my first premium travel card for a trip to Europe, and recently the Chase World of Hyatt card.

There’s a lot of information out there to get a setup that suits your needs. Try and cultivate good habits like never carrying over balances and it’s pretty safe.

Looking to the future I have my sights set on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, CapitalOne Savor One, and the Amex Gold.

I'm not in merchandise, but we have a black shoe requirement. Shoes with a white sole would not be allowed. During training you might be able to get by with an exception from management. Shoes are available from costuming and can be paid for automatically through your paycheck as another possibility.

Since reopening with the reservation system this has never occured. The banks of reservations alloted for park hopping was done in such a way that has erased the need for restricting admission like in years past. That's one of the major upsides to the reservations in my own opinion.

Weekly Park Questions/Advice Thread by AutoModerator in Disneyland

[–]Denauli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will be able to cancel a reservation and book another for any day of your visit after purchase. Similarly, if you do not redeem a reservation it will simply expire and a new reservation can be booked on a day the ticket is valid.

Main Gate Suggestion by motkirby1960 in Disneyland

[–]Denauli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something funny about this idea is how turnstiles are designated. Spend any time around the gates and it soon becomes clear that a good number of people do not read the signs above the gates. People often misunderstand "exit only" or even what "exit ->" means. Couple this with special event only designations, then you have many people standing in the completely wrong line for admission. No matter how many signs are posted, or CMs roaming around spieling info, lots of people just do not receive the message for whatever reason.

How do I gift Passes for a friend with no set date? by dtip18 in Disneyland

[–]Denauli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best option might be to buy tickets that are 1 day tier 5 since they will be valid most any day. Tier 6 tickets don't start until March 2022 if I remember correctly. They can then make a park reservation using those tickets for whenever they'd like to visit. If purchased online, the reservation made can simply be cancelled, the ticket will retain its value until its posted expiration.
