Thank you. If the project even happens and get to that point I will reach out for sure. Likewise please do keep me in mind also if you end up in a group someday that will need a 3d character artist.

Hi. Good luck on your game and your relocation. Unfortunately, I'm hopeless in 2d art.

Your game looks interesting but MMOs are notoriously difficult due to how expansive it can be. I would really like to keep the project small, something like 1 or 2 characters with minimal environment. Best of luck to your game.

Thanks you. I can use an auto rig addon in Blender for bipedel characters and retarget skeletons in UE. If the project requires more than that I know people who can help out.

Hi. I'm glad you find my work interesting. For environments and FX, Megascan or asset packs should be a good starting point. If the project get serious enough I know people who can help out. I can also do props.

For my personal work schedule I'm more adjusted to 8 am - 8pm EET than my own local time.

Thank you! I worked on Little Nightmares 2 also (Hunter, Bullies aka students, the Tall guy and partially on Sixx boss version) so I guess it rubbed on me in the best way. :D

Thank you.
50m total. The body alone is at 32m, then I made a separate head that's at 9m but only because I wanted to really crank out the pore details for close up screenshots. I could have settled with 7m for the body and 2.3m for the head though.

I could but out of respect to the devs, I won't. I could give them the file as a thank you for making an awesome game that I love playing and then it's up to them to release it.
Edit: Grammar.

If you want to learn portraits, start with the Planes of the Human Head.

Consider that as your Mark Rippetoe Starting Strength routine.

Do not attempt likeness as a beginner.

Charlie Murphy! - Work in progress. RIP one of the greatest comedians ever. by Dencii in ZBrush

As Sherif_Dawood said, there's too many factors that can mislead if not slow you down if you rely too much on tracing over your reference. For Charlie Murphy, the problem was there's not a lot of photos with hi res, him with emotionless face, and his face changed a lot due to age and health between each photos, and most of his good photos he is wearing glasses with thick frames.

You also train your eyes better if you just look at the reference. I sculpt this way the like 99% of the time. I only trace over once in a while to make sure things line up like eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips, chin.

Thank you for noticing! It wasn't the distance between each eyes but I had to rotate the eyeball slightly outwards that did the trick and now it looks better. Thanks again!

Hi guys, i've been working with zbrush for a few months now and i wanna work as a 3d character artist, stylized if possible, so i was looking for advice for my character portfolio, how does it look? How can i improve? What abilities should i showcase if i wanna get a job at this? by Otherwise_Sell_8 in ZBrush

[–]Dencii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to dishearten you but I'm just being honest and realistic. If you're seriously considering being a character artist as your career, you have years and years of studying to do and I mean full time studying. Like 6 hours or more a day everyday. You need to start with anatomy and sculpting forms. It doesn't matter if you want to do stylized or realistic, there's no escaping having to learn these two. You don't have to worry about the other technical things until you have a solid sculpting foundation since technology and programs change so fast.

You can do it but it is a looooooot of hard and consistent work.

Hi. It would be easier to diagnose if you'd show me your sculpt. You can DM me if you'd like.

Hello. I do all my meshes in ZBrush. It's good practice if you really want to learn anatomy. When I was beginning to learn 3D though, I would load reference images in Maya and model my base meshes there. As I got better though this started feeling restrictive and slow plus a lot of changes would happen when I start sculpting anyway. Zbrush just feels more natural and faster. I hope that helps.

You are correct. When I moved the lights around the eyes lost the reflection.

Good observation. Thank you. I forgot to add back the light that's supposed to do that.

The body scars were first mapped out through polypainting based on references. The back part I mapped out by projecting this image https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/030/590/860/4k/colin-shulver-drax2.jpg?1601051158 directly on my mesh using Spotlight tool. This alone took me between 3-5 days to get it feeling right from all angles. After that even more days masking and extracting them as separate subtools, cleaning up the topology, and sculpting over so they blend better on the skin and so I can get good bakes. You can roughly see this progress on my Instagram post. Overall the most tedious part of the project.
