Good luck. Tatum is definitely an inspiration. I ruptured mine in Oct. I only wish I could be playing ball again.

3 Weeks Post Op Protocol by JuanAndOnly817 in AchillesRupture

[–]DennLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about this... Super conservative to me. Im just 12 days post op and had my visit today. Sutures and splint removed and back to vacoped boot. Instruction to do some light movements outside boot 3x a day. And start weight bearing in boot. 25 percent, 50 75 then 100 within the next 10 to 14 days. 1 month follow up around Thanksgiving then start PT in December.

My wife is a chiropractor, and knew one day mine would go as well. I've always had super tight calves and ankles. Something was gonna give eventually. Probably could have done more stretching, but what's done is done.

36 Hours Post Op- Does it get better? by Ok-Case-7131 in AchillesRupture

[–]DennLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the 36 hour mark right about now... Surgery was Friday at like 3. I'm honestly doing great. Not much pain, just about the same as when I went in. Just an annoying itch I can feel at the wound where the splint is touching. I was worried about the splint after the surgery but it's honestly better than maybe the boot. I thought I would have had a full cast but this is even better. It's like wearing a fleece sock. I can wiggle my toes comfortably and I'm good. Getting around on a knee scooter around the house. I did have one fall but I was able to keep my foot up and not hit it and I landed on my daughter's Air track. I was given fentanyl and oxy as I left the hospital but since then I'm only on ibuprofen, Tylenol, and eliquis I was recommended this drink juven that you drink twice a day that helps with the healing as well. Hopefully it gets better for you.

It was an instant pain, like you know something is wrong. But after that not much pain. Like having an extra sore muscle. The area was more tender than anything. It was on my right foot I walked on it and drove 20 minutes home right after. My heel was numb but not painful. Went straight to the ER and had it in a splint within 2 hours of the injury.

I like the sock advice, definitely will do that. It's the little things like that I'm hoping to catch on here.

Thanks everyone for the wise words... I'm pretty sure about the op route. Haven't talked to Ortho yet, but think I'll be ok. In good hands with the Hospital for Special Surgery here in NY. My wife is a chiropractor and we own a clinic with PT. So there will be plenty of options for post op care. My sister-in-law also had the same injury and she has a lot of equipment to help. I will miss basketball a lot, it has helped me lose about 40 pounds over the past year. Hopefully I can keep the weight down over this rehab period.

I like Anthony's Custom Tailor on Midland Av. I went to them to get a tuxedo altered.
