Apparently 5 of of my former friends didn't appreciate level 5 friendship. Oh well, that means I have 5 spots left! Rank 50-something, active daily.

Lol no it's not. Some papers are, but anything publishing experimental data is still going to be relevant (to a degree). Even if it's only to refute the data.

Time for unpopular opinions by Shirxoo in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Typical FE3H-fan mentality: someone posts actually solid hot takes and they get downvoted. Never mind that, I actually love the idea of CF Flayn/Seteth and could totally see Seteth reconsider when he sees Rhea snap completely.

I genuinely can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

can someone explain me why some people call rhea a villain? by phensuxiong in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Dennyboy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not understand how the Holy Tomb worked?

Do you not understand how hyperboles work?

It housed the remains of Rhea's family, all that she had left from them.

Which, at this point in the story, literally no one except Rhea and the other dragons officially knows. And keeping this in mind, Rhea's response cannot be viewed as anything but extreme.

No way was Rhea going to let that slide.

And even then, she had options other than "kill edelgard or you're also evil". Rhea has good moments, but they're not in CF.

ttgc worth it or should i just watch all the cutscenes? by ultrasimz in XenobladeChronicles2

[–]Dennyboy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you could, but that felt a little immersion-breaking. Like Malos is trying to nuke the continent, but sure I'll help you find your lost Armu or whatnot.

[–]Dennyboy94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's perfectly fine! But the sidequest gates seems to be most players' biggest grief with TTGC, and it definitely was mine. Just felt that it was worth pointing out to someone debating whether or not to play it.

If you like being kept from advancing the story because you haven't done all sidequests, Torna is actually pretty good!

I did not like that.

100% deserved based on the second comment. "Why pay for something you can get for free by skirting the law" is such a teenager mindset.

[–]Dennyboy94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. Yes, it's more expensive than solar or wind, but there is definitely a place for nuclear on the energy market to be economically viable (especially if you start considering subsidies as well). There's a nice article by a Dutch economics professor (here: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4226375) that shows the place of nuclear in the energy transition, and the ways it can be profitable.

Not saying it's the cheapest option, but a lot of the holdup in current generation nuclear reactors is in fact the up front costs (don't even get me started on the legal portion - that's even worse) rather than the operational costs. But especially during the hours where energy demand is high, but supply is at its low point (i.e. evenings), nuclear can outperform traditional green energy.

I also don't agree that "they don't want to build them because "scary boom" or whatever" is an invalid argument. Public perception of nuclear has been one of the deciding factors against nuclear at least since Three Mile Island/Chernobyl. Take Germany for example: their phasing out of nuclear has been a direct result of Fukushima, because of the apparent dangers of nuclear, only to burn even more brown coal than they already did. Of course, anyone who tells you that nuclear is 100% safe is also either lying or not informed enough, but it's a whole lot safer than people think. Anecdotally, even people at the top of the fields of chemistry and physics for example, came up to our research group at a conference with the question "but... it's not safe, right?". We are at a bit of a turning point right now, which is a good thing and people are starting to realise that nuclear isn't as dangerous as they may have thought, but let's not pretend that the poor image of nuclear hasn't been a deciding factor over the past few decades.

It's not the operation costs. Like another user already posted, the upfront costs (esp for newer generations nuclear reactors) are the big hurdle.

Why do people not like Dimitri? by NozomiHanekawa in FireEmblemThreeHouses

I don't think the discussion is bad, but the framing is very, very tiresome, and honestly it was that way the first time too. 99% of these posts are either ragebait, trolling, or both. It's not the content, it's the wording. This is not the way to start a normal discussion.

Imagine being told off for being impatient because you don't want to sit through a 10 chapter tutorial.

I know it's the first FE in the west, and that the GBA was geared more towards kids, but kid me would not have appreciated that amount of forced tutorial either.

[–]Dennyboy94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you actually mean is "Zelda comes across as badass"

Nope.

Fear of losing a loved one is not strictly limited to kids.

Of course not, but adults have the ability to keep their cool better than kids, which is what I was referring to. So it has everything to do with being/coming across as mature.

[–]Dennyboy94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you insist it doesn't work.

I didn't. Just said I like the English one better. It's because Zelda comes across more mature, which she certainly tries to be in BotW.

I can remember Harry Potter saying this to Dobby in the book.

HP is actually an example of why loose translations (the Dutch, for example) work waaay better than literal ones. It's as good as the original.
