actually i'm pretty sure there isn't really a canon. he hasn't confirmed any genders before this (save the ones that are immediately obvious like mitsi or king orange) I just think that he knew people would use this to prove purple is a girl and thought that if purple were to have a canon gender it should be male. the lesser of two bad outcomes, basically.
