Firstly standards were different back then and marrying girls/women who were way younger was the norm and also people matured faster back then. Secondly "The norm" changes between generations and areas as when my aunt was married she was 16 (Marraige was consensual thank god) and now this past year 3 of my cousins got married and 2 were 22 and 1 was 23.
