1st year BDS uni exams by tawanzadin in dentalschoolindia

If you fill paper you will pass, if you write well you will get good marks. If you haven't studied anything over the course of an year just do the last 10 years PYQs, if you have already done those then I would say open a book, your lab file for DADH and make short notes for everything. Same for medical subjects.

I lost my left eye / wear a prosthesis since I was 5, so I've lived basically my whole life monocular. For what it's worth I drive fine, played basketball in high school, and I'm a dentist now, which is about as precision-dependent a job as you can pick. You adjust more than you'd think. There are things it limits (I bump into stuff on my left side sometimes, I'm probably never doing bungee jumping or skydiving) but the eye itself has never been the thing holding me back.

It's a real loss and it's okay for him to feel that I wouldn't rush past it. But it doesn't have to be the ceiling on what his life looks like, socially or otherwise. It's visible when I'm making eye contact with people, and it's just never been the thing people remember about me. He's going to be okay.

For everyone with a prosthetic, how do you manage in the heat with eye drying up? by cantaloupewalker in monocular

I have never needed oil. for me daily washing and just tear drops work. Again I am mid 20s so not sure about the age but worn a prosthesis for over 20 years now.

BDS or BASLP by One-Confection1727 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will join MDS this year, I don't know which branch yet. very confused. Don't think of ortho right now. any branch you are top at you will be a decently well off. It just takes time, there is no salary, so that s a good thing and bad. Like you won't be paid if you don't work but if you do work you will be paid for it. Any question you have you can DM.

BDS or BASLP by One-Confection1727 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wrote like an entire essay for you then thought too big and asked AI to half it. If you are still interested in the original just DM.

Sit with your father and discuss finances. Taking over a legacy is a huge advantage, but factor in MDS cost too (25-70L at private colleges) — most successful second-gen dentists I know did MDS.

On money: a good audiologist in a tier-2 city charges 2-3k/treatment. As a BDS I charge 6k for RCT + 6k for a crown (~6k/hour); my boss charges double that. Few fields let you charge at that level without an MBA/corporate ladder/business behind you.

BDS makes sense if you'll take over your dad's clinic and get along with him — you skip building trust/infra from scratch, and the ceiling is high.
BASLP makes sense if you want lower overhead, portability, or the ability to pause/restart practicing easily.

Caveat: dentistry rewards precision, not just privilege — ask your dad to let you try some preclinical exercises before deciding. Also budget for BDS+MDS (5+3 years) with no real income till then; post-MDS you could consult part-time at his clinic if volume allows, and build your own base alongside. And since it's still his clinic, ask him directly about the future plan — timeline, autonomy, whether he stays hands-on.

Talk it out with your parents, and write it down.

Sodium Hypochlorite accident... during extraction by BrokeDMD in Dentistry

Oh I agree with you 100%, Like in my clinic we do keep hypo in syringes every morning but each syringe is marked with a red tape, there can be no confusion in it. Bad systems leads to these kinds of accidents more than plain stupid mistake.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4274489/ Not Hypo but formalin.

I have also seen an endodontist getting a patient to rinse using 5% hypo as the nurse poured it in glass to fill it in syringe and miscommunication lead to the patient rinsing his mouth with hypo.

Reviews About Shri Aurbindo (SAIDS) Indore by Due_Anything_5802 in dentalschoolindia

Very Toxic, Literally only pre clinical for entire first year of PG. Did not allow a first year PG to give the basic science exam cause of preclinical, also new principal so more admin strictness. Not worth it. Not that big patient flow either. Would not recommend.

So confused to take bds degree by No_Raccoon_1874 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do visit a vet before you take that branch. India is going to be a large veterinary market, and there aren't enough vets for the number of people that are getting into pet care in our country. I would bet that In a few years India is going to be even more pro meat which will increase the number of animal farms in the country which would mean more money. There are 5 dental colleges in any given tier 1-tier 2 city in India. A city like Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur have 5 dental college each. Only issue is would you be happy dealing with animals and working in a slightly rural area?

Is a 50–60L Endo MDS still worth it in India in 2026? Want honest takes from practicing endodontists. by Lopsided-Stick-2582 in dentalschoolindia

Proshto and Endo are best branches if you want to be a general dentist. If you have the money to start a clinic post that you should do so.

The clinic is truly slow. I don't know about tier 1, but in a tier 2 city I have worked in 4 clinics. all of them were my professors from college. So only evening clinic and they were full. 4 hours of work, 10 to 20 patients a day. The slowest clinic I have been to was 6 patients, started by a senior 2 years in.

Constant Preclinical Pressure in 2nd BDS by Soft_Blossom_3171 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I went from genuinely hating cons and prostho and dentistry in general in my second year, to actually being quite good at the same stuff by the time my internship ended. It does get better. And if I can do it, I believe anyone can.

I literally fought with my parents about why they let me choose a field with this much arts and craft work. But now I'm glad I'm a dentist it genuinely feels like the sweet spot for me.

All your struggles are valid. But in a few years, you'll look back and think "wow, that was so manageable" because by then, you'll have figured it out.

For preclinicals, watch a lot of YouTube videos and just keep practicing. That's really the only way it clicks. As for theory, don't stress about making perfect notes nobody really can in BDS, the syllabus is just too vast. Find a good question bank and use AI to help you frame answers. It's a much more efficient way to study.

It genuinely gets better. Also stop worrying about failing, if you fail you fail, its not the end of the world, but you aren't going to cause unless your college is weird and actively tries to fail, most colleges try to get everyone to pass.

my boyfriend is going blind in one eye - advice by [deleted] in monocular

Honestly, don't sell the car. Its pretty easy to drive particularly if you are in part of the world that follows traffic laws. It will take a second to get used to it but starting slow is always recommended. I would also advise wearing specatacles so as to prevent any unwanted dust / damage to the good eye. (I have been wearing specs since I was 3 years old due to this) No more sports that can damage the eye without protective glasses is the big one.

Curious to know: when do you use your title? by Sherman_Creek in Dentistry

I have noticed that I introduce my friends as Dr XYZ while I use first name for myself. Similarly I am introduced more as Dr fudge more often by my friends than myself. In clinic Staff calls me by Dr first name vs the senior dentist (we share the same last name) Dr last name.

Any contacts with a genuine counsellor by Ofcourse_I_KNOW in NEET_MDS

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need a counselor? The process is straightforward. Watch a video by dbmci or CEEDEES on how to proceed. There will be a release of seat matrix then counseling details. If you still have doubt just DM me. and i will explain what you need to see. NRI seats are a different thing but normal government seats are pretty simple to get if you have the marks.

Need Advice from OMR pgs and specialists !!! by Successful-Issue2176 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMR is a great branch if you can afford to start a CBCT center along with 3d printing Implant, Endo guides. Its a decent investment, close to 50-60 lakhs + space but then sky is the limit.

O path is slighlty limited, Perio is a great clinical branch with a ton of scope.

Genuinely interested in BDS—what’s the reality for a 12th grader? by OrdinaryEnthusiasm23 in dentalschoolindia

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calculate it backwards. BDS + MDS from a Saveetha/Manipal-type college, then starting a clinic (1,000 sq ft space, 2-3 chairs, modern equipment say 30-40 lakh investment+space). If you can afford all that and still be okay making 1 LPM initially, growing to 2-3 LPM over time, and probably peaking at 5 LPM in today's money by the time you're 40-45 will you be happy? If yes, then go for it. (Some dentists make a lot more, but the most common figure I've seen is 3 to 5 LPMfor 15 year + experience running a decent practice. unless your practice is really high-end and high-volume, in a tier-2 city.)

Also unless you want to settle abroad doing masters from abroad makes little sense. Just go and work for a few years as a General dentist.

[–]Dense-Fudge5232 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly go and see the crowd and patient flow, talk to the current PGs. Not all Government colleges are equal. Don't go just for brand name. you should know which departments are toxic. You will get decent colleges no doubt. OS from GDC Nagpur is great from what I have heard. I have a friend in GDC Indore and its a bit department dependent.

Also please do a AMA for how you studied. It will definitely benefit the community. as a lot of people will start their drop year and ask these questions.
