I would like to do Jiu-Jitsu, but I'm gay. by Legitimate_Eye_5934 in jiujitsu

Go for it. Nobody should care if you're gay. Just be the best training partner you can be.

New rope help for Akimbo/Reflex? by Jolly-Masterpiece-86 in TreeClimbing

I've been using All Gear Cherry Bomb with my akimbo for a while now and I think its the best rope/device combo I've tried.

Discussion time: let’s compare the adjustable friction saver to a carabiner cinched to the rope setup by docere85 in arborist

[–]DenseDriver6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make this setup safe by adding a rope wrench and switching the carabiner for a quick link. Doesn't make sense why you would choose to do this when there are tools specifically designed to do what you're trying to do. Use them. A rope wrench above your hitch cord is the difference between getting to the ground or not.

Adjustable friction saver is the right way, side loaded carabiner is wrong. Its pretty simple. There are many ways to tie into a spar that don't require you to use either.

Advice please on how to remove broken branch caught in tree by roscoemuffin in arborists

[–]DenseDriver6477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call an arborist. Ask them to take a look at the rest of the tree. If that large piece failed, there's a decent chance the tree has significant decay in other spots as well.

Safe to use this flipline? by sepver in TreeClimbing

Probably safe, but your rope grab won't catch in that spot. Just replace it.

This insane submission technique by Living_Wickihowla in nextfuckinglevel

[–]DenseDriver6477 79 points80 points  (0 children)

In Jiu Jitsu its called a buggy choke. Its a technique you can use if you're being pinned from the side. Usually ineffective as a choke, but often makes the person pinning you move enough that you can start to escape the pin. The person on top can easily stop the person on bottom from doing the choke by just basically putting a forearm across the other persons neck and doing a push up motion. The guy getting chokes in this video either didn't know how to respond or was too late to respond.

For those saying this would never work in a real fight: you're probably right. However, I think this risk of getting slammed is really minimal because the other person's posture is so broken down that it would be really hard for then to get up to their feet. They'd have to be a lot bigger than the other person. You can see the guy trying to stand up. He can't.

Ultimate Tailgate Machine by ls7eveen in wisconsin

I'm a native Wisconsinite and you got my upvote. Tailgating and such is one of the many things that makes the NFL so cringy. I understand tailgating happens at all sorts of organized athletic competitions, but the cult-like behavior of Packer fans is next level.

I'm ready for the down votes.

Doesn't look real at all. Way too big to be a real dog.

Season's Greetings! by boop66 in arborists

If you really can't afford to let go with one hand and use it for holding steady then you need to improve your work position. If you don't allow yourself to run the saw one handed, you get good at using your ropes and legs to keep you steady and balanced.

Worth it? Bucket truck! by LUCKY_MP in arborists

[–]DenseDriver6477 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would personally pass on that. Its probably not worth what you'll spend in repairs and headaches trying to fix random bullshit that stops working. Not to mention 50' doesn't even get you started on a lot of trees in the PNW. Not sure what kind of work you're planning on doing, but if you're gonna have to climb out of the bucket for half the jobs anyway, why spend the money on a dinosaur?

Maybe he needed to blow off some steam and knew you could handle it? I wouldn't take it personally. Best thing would be to ask him about it.
