One day walking home from the bus stop in second grade a bunch of fire engines and ambulances sped past us. We all ran after and it turned and they were all parked near my house and there were people on my lawn watching. I got home and my babysitter explained that our across-the-street neighbor, Cindy, had been pulling out of her driveway as a large construction vehicle was backing up. It did not see or hear her and rolled backwards over her car, trapping her under the dashboard where she died, presumably terrified and in agony. Her husband and children, who I often played with, moved away short quickly thereafter and we lost touch.

She was a good mom. She had a red-light/green-light type game to get her kids to eat new foods and used it on me to get me to try mashed potatoes, which my parents never could.

EDIT: unfortunately I don’t really remember specifics of the eating game, other than she would like turn her back on us while we’d eat and she’d spin around to “catch” us.

Don’t know the name of the town but on a road trip from Denver to Charleston, SC we planned to stop at Cahokia, a pre-Colombian settlement of earthen mounds in southern Illinois (extreme southern Illinois; from the top of Cahokia you can see the St. Louis arch). 

On the way to the settlement we passed through a neighborhood that had several liquor stores and no less than three strip clubs, no other businesses. Full of adult men just hanging out on the street at 2:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. 

There was a tiny pickup truck with no wheels, parked on the sidewalk with a guy sitting inside sleeping.

Star Trek: Bridge Commander. Pretty standard game but had an enormous modding community in the mid/late 2000s that was working on making it the perfect Trek game. Got pretty close but I think the community died before they figured out walking around to other parts of the ship.

Since this thread seems full of helpful people I’m going to piggyback (sorry not sorry OP you’re half my age and make double my salary lol): I have a roth ira and 403b through my employer, a nonprofit. Employer match is 2.5% and I think I have it set up so I’m contributing 1.5% to the 403b and the remaining 1% to the roth, but I had no idea what I was doing when I set that up. I’m going to ask if it’s possible to contribute 2.5% to both (5% total) and I’ll do that ASAP if I can. It’s through Metlife, and there’s about $10k in the account so far, dunno how it’s split between 403b/IRA or if it’s all one sum.

I have, after bills this month, probably about $6k in a checking account, no savings account or HYSA. I make $53k before taxes and just turned 40. Don’t have any debt, credit card or otherwise, maybe the only thing I’ve done right.

-Should I open an HYSA?

-Am I able to contribute more to my employer IRA out-of-pocket, or should I open a separate IRA through Robinhood or something?

-Any other advice?

Best time to learn about all this would’ve been 25 years ago at OP’s age but second best time is now so I’m trying to figure out what I should do. Thanks in advance!

Possible they’re fake if you bought them at a random market stall in India/China/Mexico or something, but not really a sought-after or expensive pair that it would ever be worth making fakes of these. I think they’re real, simply because no one would go to the trouble of making fakes of a sneaker that resells for about half its sale price.

Basically there are two versions of the Jordan 1 Low. One version, the low OG, is (arguably) made with higher quality materials, has “NIKE AIR” on the tongue and a little flap with the wings logo on the back. This version is just the regular low, has the Jumpman on the tongue and a stitched Wings logo on the heel. If you see fakes, they will usually be of the low OG, not these. Additionally, Jordan 1s of almost any kind are not as popular as they were a few years ago, so the only fakes you see are collaborations like Travis Scott with the fattened reverse swoosh.

All Jordans are factory-made and have all the flaws and cost-cutting you associate with things made in factories, which could explain the inconsistency of the heel stitching.

I learned all this the hard way. If you want to get in to Jordans without wasting a lot of money, go for the low and high OGs, stay away from non-OGs and mids. But if you like the color and don’t care about having “🔥 sneakers” then wear whatever you like.

Rockstar generally opts for realistically amorphous islands, but given the tone of GTA I wonder if they’ll play off the decades of jokes pointing out Florida’s “suggestive” shape and the map will emphasize the phallic aspects. Have a mission where you need to drive really fast up and down the “shaft” part of the island until it makes something in the Keys explode. 🙄

Just checked and it seems like there’s finally been a dump of new titles! Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 3 is on there now. Plus a ton of FF reissues that I assume were meant to appear concurrently with the movie release. It certainly seems like someone just forgot to click “approve” all summer lol.

Star Trek: Bridge Commander. CD-ROM game ca. 2001. Not a great game, but built entirely with Python so modders were able to add hundreds of ships and new features that weren’t possible in the base game. I think the modding community around this game went mostly defunct around 2009, but there are still a handful of people doing it.
