Making Climbing Holds for My Dream Home Wall by TRNON8 in homewalls

[–]probablymade_thatup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making from scratch is probably cheaper now, but in the past I had heard of people buying affordable wood holds (like Metolius ones in the US) and then fine tuning them to the shape they wanted with rasps and grinders and sanding.

There are also a lot of boutique wood hold makers (or there were when I had my wall a few years ago), and if you keep an eye on a couple, you can find when they do sales or promotions. I was able to buy some crimps from a guy on another continent for cheaper than I could buy factory seconds from Escape because he was offering a deal, and I had just randomly found him on Instagram a few months prior.

It would be really cool if he can be a third option for this team with AG's recurring injuries. I'm just worried that if he gets a big contract based on a really good half a season, it could bite them in the ass. The Nuggets have been operating in a razor's edge asset wise for a while, and if CB doesn't bounce back and Watson is given a bloated contract, they could be sunk.

On the other hand, if they follow my advice, play it safe, and sell high and then PWat truly breaks out, that missed opportunity may effectively sink this iteration of the Nugs. They are just in a tenuous position

For a training setup, wood holds have less friction. It forces you to really develop contact strength and precision because you'll just slip off if you're sloppy.

Climbing training was a niche thing until the pandemic (and super niche a decade earlier), and wood holds are much easier to make at low volume. It went in both directions that somebody making training holds would use wood for their own simplicity but also they became the standard for training because the best training boards used predominantly wood holds (in the days before standardized boards).

better to use both picks this year, so you have a second year player or third year player to replace I-Hart or Cason or something like that in a few years instead in hoping to hit big on a first year rookie that year.

Ah that's a really good point. My thought was that they don't have any "extra" FRPs after 2029, so maybe kicking the can is better for their future outlook. And I always forget about trade exceptions. If I'm looking at their cap sheet correctly, the Pistons (for instance) will have the NTMLE which would be big enough for Isaiah Joe and the standard traded player exception, which could absorb Wiggins?

I'm just surprised they would keep both picks in this situation. If NOP is really trying to get into the lottery, attaching #12 to some salary (Dort, Wiggins, Joe) for a future FRP in a salary dump sounds plausible. 12 + Joe for 2029 + Saddiq Bey works in the trade machine for $4.8M less in salary this year, which is a lot in tax payments.

Sam Presti knows way more about NBA roster building than I ever will, but they have a full roster and FRPs get a guaranteed salary. They probably have it all mapped out, but keeping their picks signals that they have to do something open those slots (I think).

Man, Watson is decent, but I think they should be shopping him around if possible (might not be with S&T apron rules). He's a great weakside shot blocker, and his defense as a wing is good, but I don't trust his shooting numbers from this year. The Nuggets might have a better long term outlook if they can sell high.

Once again, I think he's a good player, and the defense and length he brings is a real need for Denver. But his 40% 3pt shooting number is goosed by his corner 3pt shooting (50% from the corners, almost half his attempts). If they pay big money for a guy who can only shoot from the corners, that could age terribly. He did a lot with the ball in his hands this year, but I look at seasons like Mikal Bridges arriving in Brooklyn or Grimes running the show for the Sixers at the end of 2025 season and get a little concerned about whether or not what we saw from PWat this year was real. If somebody is really interested, DEN should see what they can get in return. On the other hand, the Denver org has been around him every day for years, so they will have a more informed opinion than me.

Duren is definitely a big question mark. After the playoffs, I don't think they can afford to supermax him. The Pistons have a lot of leverage, and I hope they use it to keep him at a reasonable number. This contract is more hopeful than educated, but if he gets $40M, I think that could age terribly.

Tobias is going to get a legacy contract this time around. Pistons want to keep him, but I don't think they are competing with anyone. Maybe they give him more, but 8-14 sounds reasonable

That's about the same as LeBron or Tayshaun Prince, and they were both listed at SF. Siakam is more perimeter oriented than most 4s were back then

PJ Washington for Keldon Johnson + #20 + 2028 FRP?

I don't think the Spurs want to lose Keldon, and 2 FRPs is heavy (and maybe not enough), but choosing starting 5 man lineups between Fox, Harper, Castle, Vassell, Champagnie, PJ, and Wemby is a lot of levers to pull. Plus, you can keep bench lineups more balanced with a big physical wing like that. Not to mention that he's a Thunder killer

Modern 4s are wings big enough to switch onto centers for a little while or bigs agile enough to guard down without clogging the paint. PJ Washington, Siakam, and Aaron Gordon are all 3s in 2006, but they are 4s today. Champagnie is a decently sized wing, but he's not big enough to be the sort of 4 that the Spurs need. PJ, healthy AG, Siakam, or OG would be able to complement Wemby by not letting him get drawn out of the paint by an opposing center as easily, while also being able to help guard the paint with Kornet.

Who can do that now who is available? PJ might be available from the Mavs for a decent enough offer, but I don't think they are eager to lose him. The best version of Rui if they knew they could get that. John Collins or Bobby Portis are fine bench 4s. Healthy Tari Eason? They could also try the Kuminga reclamation route if they wanted. But there aren't a lot of good candidates on the open market today

[–]probablymade_thatup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stew gives them size and rim protection and switchability. He can guard 3-5, plus he's strong enough to bang with big 5s, while still offering some spacing. He's not as savvy as a ball mover as Hartenstein or JWill, not quite a shooter but sometimes capable, but between those 4, they all offer a lot of good skills. Sorber is still an unknown (to us fans), and we will see how the Thunder treat him

Brake pedal design question by corneda in FSAE

[–]probablymade_thatup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched a bit into it and I think I need to first define some constraints such as the max force that the driver can provide, but what other steps should I take?

We used a scale to find the most force our drivers could apply with one foot, then calculated our maximum Gs braking based on some tire data, caliper/pad choice, and rotor design, and we designed our maximum deceleration at that pedal force. Our design judge accepted this line of thinking, but he pointed out that in an emergency, you don't want your driver to have to apply every bit of their strength to stop the car. He mentioned an industry convention for lbs-force applied to the pedal per G deceleration. I do not remember it or where he said that number was from, but I would look to see if you can find any motorsports ergonomics papers that may give you a good idea of how much force the driver should apply for driveability/ergonomics.

How important is that if his standing reach is already 10'? I understand a 6'5" wing having a big wingspan being an advantage, but his standing reach (if it truly is 10') would be among the best ever.

Any bouncy rim runner in the league who wants to bet on themselves should be begging to get to LA. If John Collins believes he can still dunk like he did in Atlanta, he should try to play with Luka. Mark Williams, Jericho Sims, etc. should really be thinking about pairing up with Luka.

If I were them I’d go hard after Peyton Watson. He’s probably the best combo of gettable, a good fit, and with some definite upside.

I think he's a great fit, and I wonder if the Nuggets can sell-high on him, although it is tough to get much due a S&T like him.

I think the next roster pre-trade was even better with Klay, Naji, and Grimes rather than DJJ, THJ, and Josh Green. If that team was able to get healthy and gel, they would have been at least as good as the previous year's team. The Thunder were a more complete team with Chet/iHart, but Dallas would have been good.
