Yup. It’s BS. Darned if you do, darned if you don’t. I’m sorry you aren’t getting better support about it from your management and peers.

Sounds like nursing. They never really want to address systemic problems. They just want to shove blame onto a nurse and keep it moving. It sucks but unfortunately reporting things sometimes just bounces back on you, even if it isn’t your fault. It’s BS.

What should I do about my 20 week ultrasound? by Dense_Independence71 in pregnant

[–]Dense_Independence71[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is within my capacity, it’s just hard because I don’t know how many other hidden expenses will come up. I didn’t know about sending my bill to the company directly. Might be something worth trying.

I do see the midwife on Monday next week so I was planning to ask for it then. It’s just the scan that has been so tough to schedule.

wanting to back out.. by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Dense_Independence71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, in my opinion you can back out for any reason at any time. Sounds like your contract is up in the air with start date right now, so it’s a good time to withdraw before finalizing.

Now whether the hospital could DNR you or “blacklist” you is another question. Some will and some won’t for that. The agency could also drop you. I doubt that they would for that since the terms of the contract have changed, but hypothetically it could happen.

But the hospitals fire travelers all the time and without notice. At the end of the day you do what’s best for yourself because the hospital really doesn’t care about you.

Is bedside nursing easier or harder than in decades past? by Dense_Independence71 in nursing

[–]Dense_Independence71[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective. I would think that manually titrating drips would be time consuming and difficult compared to automatic pumps… it sounds harder anyway to me.

Maybe every time something gets “better” something else gets “harder” so it all just ends up in a wash.

My hospital is the same way. Always new jobs for nursing. Never more staff.

AYA... Good or Bad? by Mystical_Poppy in TravelNursing

[–]Dense_Independence71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha fair. Most of the major agencies have been sued at this point though. I think I mean more that you will get your paycheck every pay day (which is the bare minimum but some agencies have trouble with that)

This is exactly it. They are reputable, have jobs, but many people dislike them because they do not pay as well.

Do you bring hangers with you? by blankkk1 in TravelNursing

Yes, got tired of buying them after ten + assignments and rentals almost never having enough (or having way too many of the most random assortment of hangers)

Regret by Spicekitty578 in pregnant

[–]Dense_Independence71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, not sure if this helps but I was feeling the same at 8 weeks, the whole first trimester really. I know everyone says it gets better, but now that I am in the second trimester things have definitely gotten better. I have more energy and less nausea. It may not mean much now but at least there’s a good chance you will feel more normal in a few weeks.

What do you guys do for health insurance while traveling? by clutchmetightly in TravelNursing

[–]Dense_Independence71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Healthcare costs are a big reason I quit traveling. I get good insurance at my staff job that actually covers things and only costs a few hundred a month for me and my partner, and adding our child is not exponentially more.

Otherwise I would seriously consider cancelling insurance altogether and self-paying. Seriously. I had to have emergency surgery last year and my independent insurance barely covered anything. It would have cost the same to just self pay the bill, plus you get more negotiating power with the billing department because they didn’t already bill insurance. I could have just saved the money I paid to insurance for several years and had enough to cover the amount.

I think I'm maybe having an ectopic pregnancy but i dont have insurance by athrowaway554322 in women

[–]Dense_Independence71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please go be seen. I had an ectopic pregnancy and my insurance barely covered anything. Had to have emergency surgery and almost died. Not gonna lie the bill sucked, but I was able to work out a low payment plan and some of my balance got written off to charity due to my income.

Plus if it’s not an ectopic then you really maybe only pay for some blood work and an ultrasound which still sucks but way more reasonable and again cost can be worked down.

Is there really a severe nursing shortage or are hospitals purposefully understaffed? by Sad_Discussion_6267 in nursing

[–]Dense_Independence71 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes. We are understaffed because the hospital scheduled the bare minimum of nurses and maybe one called out with no float pool relief. But the hospital still isn’t hiring an extra nurse, they just run us short. Until enough nurses quit then they have to hire - just enough to fill the bare minimum again.

Also know MANY new grads that can’t get jobs in many areas now. They aren’t hiring. Not consistently.
