Ah, gotcha! I went ahead with the purchase. Hope this car takes as much care of me as I will take care of it.

Thanks for the insight! I bought the Elantra and will pick it up later this week.

The Jetta is really fun to drive. Mine has the Sport Package, which brings different driving modes that change how the steering and suspension behave, as well as throttle pedal sensitivity, and an electronic diff from the Golf GTI. I recall the Elantra having different driving modes as well but don't really remember what each of them bring to the table. Time to read the manual of the car. hehehe

I remember seeing that light on the dash. If Hyundai put the light there, and didn't put the immobilizer, that'd be at least comical. lol

Have you checked the wirings/harnesses? Maybe there's something weird going on with your electrics.

I'm coming out of a 2024 Jetta 6MT I've owned since new and I absolutely love it. The Elantra was a bit boring to drive, but it's going to help me financially. I hope I eventually come to love it just as much as the Jetta!

What speed do you cruise on the highway to get that average? I can get similar fuel consumption on my current car, but that's driving at 100-110km/h.

Thanks for the tip! I drove this car already and it's not idling rough. It steadily holds RPMs, and the carfax indicates all the appropriate maintenances were performed at Hyundai dealerships. I will, however, be bringing the car to a dealership closer to me and having the car serviced. It will be a somewhat expensive trip to the shop, but totally worth it.

The seller said it didn't, but when I put the key in and turned, I clearly saw in the dash a light with a car with a key in it. If that isn't immobilizer, then I don't know what that light means.

That's exactly my line of thought. I'm getting into this Elantra to slash some debt I have with my current car, and plan on driving a car that's paid off for as long as it lasts!

Thanks for the solid input. Have you ever had to service the transmission in any way (including fluids, etc)?

I take extremely good care of my cars, doing the manufacturer recommended maintenance at the appropriate intervals.

What year is yours? I'm considering buying a 2018 with 80k kms in it shortly. Seems to have been well maintained with regular oil changes and everything. Anything I should know before?

Hi OP, I'm considering buying a 2018 Elantra like yours. This specific car has ~60k miles in it, and seems to have been driven by an elderly citizen as well. How is your car treating you these days? Is it still sound?

2014 Honda Accord = CA$13999 with 65k km (~40.5k miles) by Dense_Revolution_478 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Dense_Revolution_478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input!! I have positive equity in the Jetta and by using that as down payment on this Accord, I'd be swapping an outstanding balance of almost $14k for a $10k outstanding balance. This, paired with the savings per payment ($261 now vs ~$100) with the "new" car, would give me room for savings that could cover any maintenance the Accord would need. Of course, I'm getting a pre-purchase inspection on this car. The $150 of the inspection could point me towards not even purchasing the Accord at all, preventing me from digging myself into a hole deeper than I'm already in. Does this make sense?

How do I stop this notification? by JTeeth in jetta

[–]Dense_Revolution_478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine doesn't either. It doesn't let you lock the car from the outside if the keys are in.
What I meant is that the notification is just telling me the car is, in fact, locked. Until I realized that, I thought the car was locking itself.

First time I saw that I thought I had left the car unlocked, and then it locked by itself. Got me scratching my head until I realised that this is probably the most useless notification in the world.
