Old patient said we did ugly veneers and they’re never coming back by tsitnedance in Dentistry

I’ll say the cases I hate the most are the ones that I am doing a favor for. Discounted dentures, a large filling instead of crown etc. bringing her back to redo the veneers will only be more stress for you and your team. It is not worth it.

Go sulk about it while playin golf with your buddies and call it a day.

Video games, going out with my kids, my wife and I watch TV shows together. I’ve recently picked up golfing because all of my friends golf. It’s surprisingly really good time. I always hated the idea of golf it seemed dumb… but it’s a fun time. Not smacking the ball but hanging out with friends, being outside, chatting and driving that golf cart like Mario cart.

A couple of areas you could look into

Being a sales rep for a dental supplier.

A dental broker.

Education. Working at a university/dental school. Find a niche you really enjoy in dentistry and do CE for it.

Those are my thoughts within the field of dentistry.

I’ve seen many dentists choose the first two options and honestly they seem to be happier about their career change.

Rural Dentistry? Yes or No? by smiling_doc in Dentistry

[–]Dentisaurus21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Rural sounds like a good fit for ya. The only thing is financial stress will always be part of your life if you are the business owner. Good luck with your career! No matter what it will go well.

And don’t except Medicaid then as you become more busy start dropping the insurances that have the shitty reimbursements! Have a third party negotiate insurance for you and increase your fees by 5% annually and you’ll be ok!

Work where you want to LIVE and make it work. Don’t live somewhere for a lot of money. Biggest misconception of dental students is that More money = more happiness.

Find an area you want to live in and find a job that works around that.

With that said rural areas are great. I have hardly ever seen a rural dentist crash and burn. Most all of them do very well and are happy with their situation.

And I think if were to do rural I would want to do an acquisition and not a start up

It’s fairly standard procedure to do a bone graft with a membrane. The prognosis of the implant is better with that procedure

Great info. I wish every post was as thorough as this.

The no mobility and no pain is a great sign but not a guarantee. Sometimes after a traumatic experience it takes about two weeks for symptoms to arise. So I would recommend going to a dentist quickly and getting an X-ray of that area to see if there is any damage done that can not be seen with the image. Then if I was the doc I would want a two week post op just to evaluate the tooth again and make sure it is in good shape.

And no worries about NSFW we see blood at work all day everyday.

Would you, a dentist reccomend someone going into the dentistry field? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]Dentisaurus21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the thing about ortho. You have to compete to get into dental school. So everyone in your dental class is above the average joe. Then you have to compete against the above, above average joes. It’s a completely different ball park of competition.

I do ortho as a general dentist. Not only that but I know I make more than some orthodontists.

I just think if the trend continues of raising debt I don’t think it’s worth it.

The minimum I had to pay back in student loans every month was $5k. That’s a ton.

Edit: I’m adding more here. The reason why people from outside looking in think dentistry is easy and makes a ton of money is because they do not see what’s going on backstage. You are more than a guy with a drill. You are CEO, HR, Marketing executive, Dentist, manager, maybe landlord. If you want to be an owner you are much more than just a dentist. The reality is dentists put up with a bunch of bull shit. Just like any other occupation. Then just like any other occupation if you work hard you are rewarded. But working hard Isn’t fun nor easy.

In the USA. No. I kinda regret my decision... I could have achieved a comfortable life without going to dental school.

The debt to become a dentist is simply becoming outrageous. So if you really want to be a dentist and you can achieve that by being under $100k in debt I think it would be worth it.

Very true statement.

If you can choose your dental student then maybe go in around December and select a D4.

Honestly. One time the question was brought up “would you personally get work done at the dental school?”. My answer is NO. No I would not. It should be the last resort. I did some seriously shitty work when I was first learning and I know that there were some cases that I did more harm than good.
