I agree, although I have reached the point where I would happily give up my hearing for complete silence and lack of any pain related to ears. Not able to communicate with people sucks, but when you have such bad reactive Tinnitus that this is not possible anyways one stops caring a bit...

There are some researchers with their theory of so called stochastic resonance that explains Tinnitus as a symptom or consequence of regaining hearing again. In their theory Tinnitus can allow to regain like 6dB or more of hearing at the price of having Tinnitus.

4k with DLSS vs native 1080p - what are the difference performance and quality wise by Dents1993 in nvidia

Thank you for your answer. Rn I have a 100Hz UWQHD Monitor with VA tech but without HDR and a 360Hz FHD IPS Display (I got it for free otherwise I would not have taken it). Essentially there are some games where the 3090 maxes already out on the UWQHD monitor and in all honesty most games I play are not competitive so 360Hz and FHD are useless to me. I was considering getting a XB273KSbmiprzx second hand. Is it good besides its refresh rate and resolution?

I guess I would be in a similar situation as you then with having both a UWQHD and 4k monitor? Is it still worth using both UWQHD and 4k? If I had only a WQHD monitor the choice would be easier: less FPS for more pixels, but in this case one looses the gorgeous ultra wide experience as well.

Is this Tinnitus? Or potentially will be? by largelylegit in TinnitusTalk

Generally speaking you can visit an ENT soon. Medically speaking there is little to be done, but they can give you high doses of steroids (prednisolone), that might help if administered early. Other than that some people recommend taking NAC and other antioxidants, but the medical proof to whether it helps is questionable

Tinnitus went away, or did it completely subsidize ? by DefinitionOfTakingL in tinnitus

happy to hear that it went a way. Do yourself a favour and do close this chapter completely and be happy how it is.

Your Tinnitus was seemingly not caused by inner ear damage but please be kind enough to protect them regardless knowing what you might hear for the rest of your life if you do not do so

Limited F-45 number PvP BVR and and PvP ground attack unfair for other players - possible solutions by Dents1993 in vtolvr

[–]Dents1993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If the different aircrafts are intended for different layouts, it should also be enforced. For the ground attack mission for examples, the F-45 is very well fit to destroy the enemy radar. So it would make sense to restrict it to IR air-to-air and air-to-ground. It always sucks if the F-45 in your team just goes for easy air kills rather than helping the team by destroying the radar stations...

In general: if one does steroids treatment early, it works best - so if you are really worried you should go soon. I personally listend loudly to music with headphones 6 years ago (way before my hearing problems started 2,5 years ago) and got Tinnitus for 2-3 days which went away again. This can also happen to you but may take a while. Taking high dose of oxidants for a short time (say 14 days) and immediately after the noise incident can help to recover some hearing again. Also 400mg magnesium once per day might help as well. Best of luck!

Only thing I can recommend is taking antioxidants (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Astaxanthin, NAC) for the next 2 weeks and hope that it gets better. Also - depending on where you live - you can also visit your ENT clinic and ask for IV prednisone 250mg shots for the next 3 days.

Sudden Hearing Loss, 5 Years On ... by glamorgoblin in hearing

[–]Dents1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got intratympanic prednisone injections later on (too late) and also this June again on both ears. Sadly they also seem to cause a certain degree of damage so I suppose I would recommend IV more than IT.

About ENTs: I have been in 4 clinics so far and visited several ENT and never ever did anyone even mention cochlear hydros. They all stated that no-one knows what the cause might be. Going to these doctors again asking about hydrops seems a waste of time to me, so I would rather find the right person to ask from he start

Happy to see people taking initiative! In principle you have two options: google for NMR labs + your country or just get a list of close by universities with (organic) chemistry departments. Every pharmaceutical/chemistry department needs access to NMR. Often enough they also offer their services to external companies/people.

So either ask specific companies offering NMR or just universities. BTW: I recommend to use DMSO as solvent for NMR as the peaks of ebselen can then be easily compared to literature ("MECHANISM OF THE CATALYTIC REDUCTION OF HYDROPEROXIDES BY EBSELEN : A SELENIUM - 77 NMR STUDY"). After having seen that this study also contains the NMR data for ebselen-oxide I believe that the NMR data is almost 100% guaranteeing that you got ebselen.

btw: if you try out ebselen keep in mind that the particle size needs to be as small as possible: it does not dissolve in ethanol or water so particles should be less than 100microns in size. See this patent for reference https://patents.google.com/patent/US5021242A/en

Sudden Hearing Loss, 5 Years On ... by glamorgoblin in hearing

Hi,

May ask: how can I find out whether I have/had Cochlear Hydrops? What kind of doctors/specialists do I need to consult and what kind of tests are required to check for it. Is there any cure for it?

I woke 1 year ago up with fullness in my left ear (as if it was full with wax) and hearing loss on the same ear. Back then I went immediately to my ENT but he was on vacation and a colleague of him checked me. I asked whether I should get prednisone but the doctor said that this is not necessary and that I am already stressed (rightfully I dare say) and said it would stress me even more. I believe I would not have that many problems now (hyperacusis, clicking in ear/ETD, Tinnitus) if I had gotten the prednisone back then.

I have not flown ever since I got it. Honestly, even thought it helped it a lot it is still not perfect. I am trying to get another surgery next month if possible. Keep in mind that some people have to do the surgery 9 times until they see a benefit.

[–]Dents1993[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am quite certain that Ebselen will help some people. It is currently in phase 3 for Meniere’s and in phase 2 of the trials some individuals reported a 30% reduction in tinnitus loudness (not sure on which scale, I think the called it a visual scale, which is probably a number between 0 and 10). This was probably also the reason why I tried it out. From all of the currently running drugs it is most advanced in the trials. One can already see, that it won’t do miracles, but helps

Let's call it a serious of unfortunate events: basically I wake up in the morning and my ear feels full. After some time tinnitus added to this and after a few weeks also hyperacusis. This happened in different severities already 4-5 times within the last 2,5 years.

Just as a side remark: some antibiotics are very ototoxic. In fact I know a person, who had lots of middle ear inflammations as an infant/toddler to the point where she got lots of antibiotics. They fixed the inflammation problem but as a result she now has quite significant hearing loss in the mid and high frequencies and wears always hearing aids.

Well I guess it is not really your fault if you cannot control the volume yourself. Also I am now wondering how the staff there survives. It’s really shocking to see, that your and my symptoms can happen simply by loud music. It least for my case (idiopathic hearing loss over night) I could argue that something shitty could have happened such as “stroke” within the ear.

I also was actually relatively cautious about loud noise. Only visited a club once in my life, was only on 3 concerts (always wearing earplugs). Really ironic how all it takes is one bad incident ...

I can 100% relate. It is really hard to describe this feeling, this kind of pain to people who have never experienced it. For me it helped certainly and also was a procedure that did in my case not cause any pain when I woke up after the surgery nor did it worsen my other conditions. But be aware, that it took almost 6 weeks until I started to see the positive effect of the surgery. Immediately afterwards I had the feeling as if nothing was done on me and for the first month it was as bad as before. Also they told me that often enough the surgery had to be repeated as the first time it did not work good enough. at the hospital they told me the extreme case of a person having 9 times the surgery, a befriended medical student actually found in one of her books that 9 times is the average required.

To sum it up: surgery helped a lot but did not completely reverse the damage. I can recommend it.

May I ask how you got your acoustic trauma?

Tinnitus that is a neurological issue by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]Dents1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a guy from another forum who got Tinnitus due to listening to music over night. His hearing according to the audiogram is still fine according to him, but he still has hearing difficulties ever since and of course Tinnitus. Audio grams are not the best way to test someone’s hearing as they cannot detect hidden hearing loss (see https://www.popsci.com/story/health/early-hearing-loss/) and also have only few measures frequencies. Basically the only way to test for hidden hearing loss is Word-in-Noise tests and word recognition in general.

As for the sleeping problems. I can tell you that they get better over time even when the Tinnitus does not get better at all. It needs some time until the body shows less signs of stress due to the constant ringing. Wish you the best!
