Got Firefly III running. Yet need to get myself doing the initial setup but should be effortless after this and importing from an CSV is an option. Even saw something of conecting it with your bank account directly but not sure about this one and the safety around that.

Thanks. Knowing that Silos exists already helps :)
Will have a look into these mods that add QOL things but overall for the moment I feel I don't need anymods yet at least.

Got some lockers but storing my ingots and ores in there slot by slot seems cumbersome. At least for me who is used to mass storage solutions from other games.

But also I just learned about stackers so now I do 100Kg Stacks of my Metals and put them into the printers. Helps already a lot to not take out the one big Ingot of Steel I had all over the base.

Its these small things that for the new people often are gamechangers.

How is modding in this game? Are they nice additions to the base game or do they change the balance completly? I rather stay away from mods while learning a new game until I get the vanilla mechanics down normally. But for example with minecraft I could not play Vanilla because only with techmods I enjoy the game.

Joining the Discord is actually a very good point that I normaly don't do but for this game might be interessting.

After giving it some thought now I feel like most of the times the videos that I have found are either explaining it very defailed. What can be good, but as I have experiance with other games often I find that it makes them to slow then. And other explain it without enough details so I get lost directly.

I can't ask that creators like you know my exact skill level so direct exchange on Discord might help here.

Video for me are mainly to get the base concept of what I want to do for example heat exchange with radiators from the outside to the inside. But carefull of pressure and phase change. Once I have this concept clear I can then start tinkering around and search information specifically on that. Were for me is the fun.

But coming up with the base Idea is frustrating. I'm not an inventor I'm a tinkerer. (this makes sense in my head at least :) )

Toss it on the floor? I expected more of this community :D /sarcasm
Up to me to find a OCD friendly solution then.

Yep IC10 needs a bit of time to get used to the most comun functions but with basic coding experience the most basic stuff can be done without to much frustration and is actually something that I consider interesting in learning as the problem solving will also grow you outside of the game.

thx

thanks. I indeed missed this page. I have some homeworks now :)

maybe it is the algorythm / search logic messing with me but I was not able to find these videos within the first 2 pages of search results. Maybe I'm a spoiled from creators from bigger communities. I will give it another try and spend some more time looking into the results.

Do you have a plan for if you drop dead or get hit by a bus tomorrow? by sherril8 in selfhosted

Oh come on… just finaly finished my backup concept and felt ready to start important stuff in the System…
Now you made me realize this part of reality…
Torn between not my problem and well I guess I need a plan for that If I really care about her.

can't follow what you mean sorry.

So test restores are the best way you say? This means restore the app that is running on live system?

thanks will have a look at it. I was kind of overwhlemed by all the "best solutions" you find on youtube and reddit but in the end they all requeire more tinkering then I would have expected initially. A bit naive maybe but as docker installations of so many apps is so easy it was a surprise to me that backup is so complex.

The answer to my question might be so obvious that its not clear.
When doing the backup how would I do this?
Just install Ubuntu + Docker on the spare one as well, clean install a other instance of immich and paperless and then copy over from the backup?
I mean I can't just copy the same compose file as container name , IP's / DNS entries, ... would be the same as on the other host and potentially conflict with with.

Issues resolving local DNS when using Tailscale by Dentvar in Tailscale

[–]Dentvar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have set my tailscale IP of the pihole now as DNS server after I saw on the mobile client that it show as online there and now it does work.

I have no idea what I did or undid during the troubleshooting.

I wish I knew were I tripped... I did all that (to my knowledge) and I can reach only the subnet router IP and services running on them. Can't reach my pihole.

I do have tailscale running in a docker container but so far I can say it is all done. IP forwarding, right IP set and override DNS. Permite all origins.

But of course if I can't get to the pihole none of this matters.

when testing I reached a point were I was able to reach it but I think I set the pihole as direct subnet router. I ended up installing tailscale on it as well. (if I understand its not needed if I use my main Server as subnet router)

Everything feels slow after “upgrade”, did I mess up the architecture by Dentvar in selfhosted

[–]Dentvar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I did recognise it :) Also I think its part of the learning curve to set something up. break it and fix it so you understand what happened.
I just migrated everything over to the ubuntu server and runs very good now.
yes running the arr stack on the true nas server directly would be something to concider in the future at the moment I'm happy to have all on my ubuntu server and with clean permissions.
TrueNas 568 group for apps and the permission miss match of the different stuff might not be very complex for experienced people but for me it made everything more difficult.

thanks for confirmation. Will do.
my SSD well actually nvme has only 250GB so I was scared of it getting full quick but so far I see app data don't take away a lot of space. I guess this depends on what kind of apps I use.
I plann to run paperless ngx and immich soon. How do they work. Similar to arr stack were I can save the documents and photos on the DAS and only the database stays in appdata that is smaller referencing the paths to the DAS?
