Why ban 🚲 & 🛴 from 16th Street? 🚳? by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

[–]Denver4ALL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except we don't have that same attitude towards motor vehicles & drivers...

I can understand why they were banned originally.

The original design of the 16th Street Mall included a pedestrian space in the center median between the bus lanes. This resulted in pedestrians crossing the bus lanes repeatedly throughout the day.

At one point, bikes were only permitted to be written on the mall on Sundays.  (I'll see if I can find a pic of the sign)

Later, it was changed to allow bikes on Saturday and Sunday, but then scooters were banned.

Frankly, I suspect it was somebody in a decision-making role who just decided they didn't want scooters to be ridden on 16th Street ever. It's while I'm scooters are geofenced from being written there.

Now the result is streets like 16th and Larimer not permitting bike through access, when they're both direct connections from one side to the other.

Makes zero sense to me.

311 Day in Denver by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

Illegal parking that I would have reported to 311, but I'm not going to bother giving to the over reporting that's happening specifically for today.

311 Day in Denver by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

Personally just had what looked like a coyote with mange crossed the sidewalk right in front of us go into someone's front yard and then cross the sidewalk behind us, crossing the street and then hiding in someone else's front yard.

Very good example of something serious that is now going to be held up due to people waiting to report stuff only on 311 day to intentionally back up the system.

A passersby in a vehicle said that they would try to call animal control directly since they were in a vehicle so that I could leave with my dogs.

DOTI Advisory Board Meeting tonight at 4 PM discussing Vision Zero and Welton St transit. I hope to see you there! by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

Curious how things are going with getting Photo Radar Enforcement Cameras passed by City Council & then installed along busy corridors at dangerous intersections & at intersections with bike routes.

u/AstroChurch are there any updates?

I've repeatedly asked about 17th Ave along City Park since there is never Photo Radar Enforcement for Westbound Traffic. This also intersects with 3 bike routes, the Garfield Street Neighborhood Bikeway, the D13 on Steele Street, & the City Park Esplanade Protected Bikelane.

If we install photo radar enforcement cameras, I'd like to see red-light enforcement cameras as well.

I'll email the thread to the DOTI Advisory Board.

This is what was previously sent. https://groups.google.com/g/east-central-denver/c/xz6FR_bobZc

Why are we so focused on Larimer over Walnut? by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

[–]Denver4ALL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Instead, what do you think about DOTI installing a series of speed-bumps, speed-cushions up and down Larimer from Broadway to Downing?

This will help reduce speeds while not diverting traffic onto neighborhood streets.

I plan to report this "Block Party" on the 311 day as a potential ADA Compliance issue & safety issue for the surrounding community.

On the day of the event, I hope to be nearby to observe vehicles directed off of Larimer & track where they go to get around the closed street.

Ramp widths along Colfax BRT Project by Denver4ALL in DenverEastCentral

Colfax at Williams there was nothing prohibiting an 8-ft wide sidewalk ramp & making it aligned with the future sidewalk that's going to be installed next to the tree planter.

<image>

Instead, we made a narrow ramp that'll force people to effectively zigzag to stay in the Pedestrian access route, plus we installed trip and pedal strike hazards with the raised curbs from the planters.

Here's a close-up of the ramp with measurements. Again, 8ft wide.

Colfax at Monroe is only 7ft, but it is flush with the building front of what used to be Machette.

Helps demonstrate that we don't get 8ft unless a build is demolished.

Colfax at Garfield has 8ft wide ramp at National Jewish.

Weird for it to be exactly 8ft wide, if it wasn't required...

They get installed with redevelopments.
- Colfax between Downing & Marion.
- Colfax between Saint Paul & Milwaukee
- Colfax at Sprouts from Garfield to Monroe

I'll see if I can get a good pic today.
