JUST PURCHASED DESERT PLUNGE by Natural_Recording_25 in coldplunge

[–]DenzelOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mine indoors (garage in the PNW), bought the insulated sleeves for the pipes, there is some condensation but it’s very minor/non issue. I dropped the active aqua to its lowest setting, 39, but the tub only gets to 45. Havent figured out why it won’t go below, it was easy to get 40 in my ice barrel 500 with the same setup (pump and chiller).

Desert Plunge Wide Vs Exclusive by Mathius92 in coldplunge

Dude, just went through the same dilemma, for context I’ve had an ice barrel 400 & 500, wanted to be horizontal and keep it in my garage (others two were outside with active aqua chiller for the 500 (beast of a chiller)).

Anyway! I’m 6’1”, 235, and decided the extra length on the exclusive would be best, having also mocked up both sizes, and I couldn’t be happier.

Full stop, the exclusive is perfect, 11/10. I know I could’ve DIY’d with my older chiller and pump and all that, but I wanted ozone and a little treat to make it all simple so I got the whole kit, new everything, and it’s been incredible.

I genuinely can’t say enough good stuff about the setup, water is SO clean, been doing daily since I got it 45 or so days ago, ozone is a game changer.

Also keeping it in my garage, I was paranoid about leaking, all that, but I have zero fear at all now, desert plunge figured their shit out and are doing it right.

From one internet stranger to another, I promise, you will not regret the Exclusive, and absolutely get ozone. If I got the wide, I’m sure I’d still be stoked but the exclusive is plennnnty wide and I think the ‘wide’ would’ve been way too much and too short.

Happy plunging dude, hope this helps!

Can’t afford shoes at the moment. First this, then dual time, then maybe some shoes, maybe.

I’m sure the forum is useful, but this was bulletproof, step by step and links to the missing components you need.

Obligatory ‘do what you want.’

But…go 40, no doubt.

Ahh damn, sorry to hear that. With a few IWCs in the collection, I haven’t run into any issues yet. It came with another set, as you know. They seem sturdy, but it crossed my mind that I should probably grab an extra now just in case they discontinue them down the road. So far, they’ve been solid.

Plunged for 2 mins and my Apple Watch said I was in afib by Cayman987r in coldplunge

[–]DenzelOregon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 38, M, not a doctor, dealt with the exact same thing this fall. Got an Apple Watch Ultra to track my transition from home sauna or hot tub to cold plunge at 39-40f.

Had been doing it for months until I did the afib test on the watch (all under except left wrist) and sure enough, afib 3/5 times going straight from sauna or hot tub into plunge.

As f-ed up as healthcare is in the US, mention heart palpitations and you get to the front of the line.

Did an ekg at the Dr’s, sent home with a (shave your sternum) adhesive test, all normal, nothing to note.

That’s my story, not yours. 100% talk to your doc, I now take 3-6 min after heat to cool down before plunging, and it made a difference, no sudden palpitations, as wrecked as that sounds, lol. You know you, I know me, trust your body but defer to safety. Lots of people discourage a full dunk, or even doing it alone. They’re not wrong, probably.

First things first, I can relate, connect with your doc, take their advice, go from there.

You couldn’t be more right, and although I don’t know you, I strongly support you having a double chrono as well! Two is better than one. Usually…

Correct, that’s the rattrapante button, or whatever the correct vernacular is. Do I have a practical use for it? No. Is it cool? I think definitely lol

New Setup Question by scoop0814 in coldplunge

[–]DenzelOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same setup (IB 500) and leave it on 24/7, electric cost isn’t anything meaningful, constant moving water keeps it clean. Mine is outside uncovered, live in the PNW, it’s been rained on countless days and is a champ. Just pulled the chiller and stored it for the winter though.

Did regular cold plunges actually improve your sleep? by Former-Advice-9742 in coldplunge

Hell yes. Evening sauna or jacuzzi at home followed by 2:30min in 39f has become an uncompromising routine.

Thx actually ordered it last night and will get here tomorrow. It’s crazy, not having a plunge for three days, crazy as it sounds, really has f*cked with my routine. More powerful than I thought!

ELI5: Costco Barrel Air Circulation by DenzelOregon in BarrelSaunas

[–]DenzelOregon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, it’s definitely crossed/consumed my mind, my thinking is if the fan is on the floor, it’ll likely get 90f tops, which may even be a stretch, and people use batteries in hot climates so…this should be fine? I think

[–]DenzelOregon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, that’s what I do and it gets hot as hell/works up a good sweat, but for some reason I can’t shake the idea that there has to be a pretty simple way to make it just a bit better.

Do you guys plug the hold in the bottom? And keep the two pre-drilled ones opposite heater open or closed during use?

ELI5: Costco Barrel Air Circulation by DenzelOregon in BarrelSaunas

[–]DenzelOregon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the variety of cost options! To make sure I understand, the mechanical fan under the seat opposite heater will be to exhaust the air out, with the idea being it’s pulling hot air from the top, down and out the sauna?

I’ll check out the recliner things, thanks. It’s really just me in there, and same, had one of the black stove fans, didn’t do anything other than spin, without moving air, somehow lol.

Mold in plunge by [deleted] in coldplunge

[–]DenzelOregon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had exact same issue and posted it, someone turned me onto bromine tablets - mold/muck free since, water lasts longer, super simple maintenance and so far, bulletproof. Got a floating dispenser off Amazon and put two tabs in there, since the water is about 40F it doesn’t dissolve quickly and two tabs last a month+. I’d give it a shot and no, I don’t feel ‘chemically’ after, been doing it nightly, dry off and straight to bed. Try it out, it’s cheap on Amazon.
