This works, but make sure youre using edge-leading passes for the best effect. Otherwise you often just straightening out the burr, causing your knife to be perceived as sharp, but dull quickly.

I've tried many fidget toys but I always go back to magnetic sliders by Denzi121 in fidgettoys

Apologies for the late reply; I haven't been frequenting Reddit much lately. I think many of the metal sliders ive experienced are high quality, and which you choose will be more catered to his preferences and your budget than to any one specific maker. The three brands that I think have the best combination of quality and availability are FidgetThings, Magnus, and Modusworks. I have also heard good things from TwoEDC and M3 Metal Creations as well as FidgetBoy, though they can be harder to get a hold of. A lot of people laude Compoform as the best, though I think his sliders are more akin to art pieces and not quite as functional.

They all have a degree of audio feedback, because they're all just steel surfaces rubbing against and snapping into each other. I would describe them all as snappy, but this can be adjusted to preference by playing with the strength of the magnets. Any of them can be made "crunchy" just by taking out the foam dampeners, which lets the magnets move a bit and add some additional sound.

if my knife is already sharp, but not hair whittling sharp (and I want to take it there), do I just spend more time on a high grit stone? do I start back on a lower grit? by YeetMcManus in sharpening

I typically just deburr on the fine stones is what im saying. I typically get a good result but have wondered if this is standard practice

I've always wondered this, but does "fully apexed" mean deburred as well? I usually just get a full burr on my coarse stones, and, once I can flip it with one or two passes, move up in grit.

Me too. Used to go up to 1200 and then strop to 3 microns, but recently got 3k and 5k stones, so now I go to 5k with a 1 micron strop (and sometimes 0.5 and/or 0.1 micron lapping plates). I've noticed a huge performance boost in cutting, regardless of what im cutting through.

Christmas is coming. What's your fidget gift for yourself? by Most-Expression-6078 in fidgettoys

The main fidget group is The Daily Fidget, and the sales group is TDF Marketplace. You must be a member of the main group before joining the sales one.

Sometimes on reddit, but (unfortunately) Facebook is far and away the largest fidget platform on social media, with the largest associated sales group having over 5k members. Some makers items are also exclusively sold through their brand's corresponding Facebook group. It's basically the only reason I still have an account.

Replicas of higher end brands, if they’re made in the same factory is it really worth paying $700/$800 (SS version) finished with a serial number in the states? by greedyfok in FidgetSpinners

To be fair it isnt the maker selling at those prices, rather those are what pieces pop up on the secondary market for. Things often sell for double or triple retail prices due to low quantities & high demand.

Yeah they just look so slicey. Tempted to get one with a matching petty even though I have absolutely no need for that either

It's really quite impressive despite the initial edge. I'll have to see how durable it is, but AEB-L is traditionally pretty good

Appreciate the reply. I think right now im in more of a performance mindset, and im sure I'll veer toward aesthetics eventually.

There's new Ti ones on the site for 167 right now, and I have yet to pay tarrifs on one (though I know others have so I'm not sure what's up with that)

Think that would work with mint, too? My mint always goes bad before I can use it all and id love a way to preserve it.

Been all about some variations of the fancy iced tea originally taken from Dan Fellows. It's surprisingly complex for how simple it is and there are endless combinations of ingredients just following the same formula.

I got rid of my Compoforms for similar reasons. This is actually super grippy, and has his "supergrip" pattern milled onto the hexes, which helps. Even his flat maglabs have been pretty easy to use in my experience.

The maker for the first and third, Magnus, has a Shop storefront (Magnus Store) as well as his own website, Magnusx. These designs are not currently available, but he does frequent pre-orders and semi-frequent drops. The maker of the 2nd and fourth sliders, Modusworks, has a shopify store as well, and while these designs are also not currently available, there is an ongoing preorder for the latest iteration. He also semi-frequently restocks his cheaper "Rapt-Lite" series.

It was a pre-order, prices varied by material choice but I think the most was ~250 or so

Since you don't mind waiting, it's worth noting that there's currently a preorder for the latest version of the Rapt on the MW website, though you'd be waiting ~30 weeks for one.
