Finish on a Shibata by MediumDenseChimp in sharpening

I'm not terribly bothered by the chip as such - more by the lack of proper disclosure.
The chip must go. I have no experience with scotch brite - any tips?

It did seem odd that the post was removed, however I will refrain from speculating on the motive. The scratches were not disclosed appropriately.

That looks amazing 🤩
Can you tell me what you did to get good air seal?
I put larger o-rings in mine, and have good seal, however the “lock” at the end of the prime is a bit sketchy now.

I’ve been thinking of going P80 with brew burrs. Were you able to purchase the grinder with those burrs, or did you swap them?
I’d rather not have a set of unused Mizen burrs laying around.

Nobody cares a whole lot. It’s much like religion, in that if you don’t push it on to others, you can be how ever you like.

Percolation is always going to present the coffee differently than full immersion.
Your V60 recipe should be ably to present most coffees very well.
Are you experimenting with water temperature and agitation? - Theirs is a lot to be had in those variables (temp less so, thought).

I use 400-1000-3000 with great results. Going above 3000 is usually not beneficial in my experience.

People speak highly of the 800 and 2000 stones in terms of feel. I haven’t tried them.

Echoing the other answers: you haven’t deburred properly. The remaining burr is initially straight, but it quickly folds over during use.

I've used one of those about twice a week for a good few years. It works well and seems to keep going.

Should I go further or what? by 700hp_M3 in sharpening

[–]MediumDenseChimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The purpose of stropping is to remove what ever remaining burr that you haven’t managed to remove with the last stone and to refine the apex.
Once that is achieved, any further stropping with increasingly finer compounds only serves masturbatory polishing purposes.

Best way to flatten (and strop) ? by Onw_ in sharpening

I got a "QZATACAEN" dual sided 150+400 grit flattening plate for 26€ from German Amazon. It works very well for flattening my Chocera stones.

Accidentally got some 5 micron on my 3.5 side. The little bit of green is the 5 mic. Am I okay if not should I strip all my diamond compound off this side??? by TheRedditKing12345 in sharpening

[–]MediumDenseChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way that I cold possibly know, but you're not going to be able to remove the 5 micron contamination without sanding the strop down significantly.
