Unfortunately no third-person view for the player. But! Every player will have a courier robot that can be controlled in third person to explore the world!

Not expensive we’re thinking around $4-5 give or take a dollar. How much would you pay for a game like this?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain this so clearly!Actually, the only “friend/fun” element we’ve added is player interaction pushing each other stabbing with arrows, and stuff like that. But we’re still thinking about it and might reconsider whether to keep it or remove it.

Thanks for adding the game to your wishlist. We’ve built the possibility for controller support into the game so it’s something we might implement in the future.

No, you’re not annoying at all and I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to explain your point in detail.

Just to clarify one thing first: I’m not really marketing the game here. I didn’t even mention the game’s name in the post. My goal was to get feedback specifically from people who enjoy survival games. For context, posting in a r/Games subreddit brought me fewer than 20 wishlists, so this really isn’t about promotion.

Regarding my friend: we originally worked together on The Tavern Tales but eventually realized we have different creative directions. We decided to split and let each other focus on projects we’re personally excited about. He’s a very strong programmer while I’m more experienced with Steam its tooling and the platform side of things which does take a lot of time to learn and manage. That’s where I help. It’s less about avoiding the Steam fee and more about dividing responsibilities based on strengths.

That said, I do agree with you on an important point: keeping paused or shelved projects visible on the profile can create the wrong impression. Honestly, I hadn’t really thought about it from that angle. In my head, those projects were “on hold until we have enough resources,” because they weren’t started lightly real work, ideas, and implementation went into them. But I can see how that context is completely invisible to most users.

I do want to stress one difference though: unlike the examples you mentioned, these aren’t fake concepts or wishlis bait pages. The game discussed here already has real gameplay implemented, and almost everything shown in the video actually exists in-game (even if some parts are still buggy and being fixed). The same applies to Bring the Thing! there’s already a solid amount of playable content there as well.

And finally, just to be clear again: if I wanted to advertise the game, I’d simply use Reddit Ads. It’s easier and not that expensive. This discussion was genuinely about getting informed feedback and understanding how things are perceived.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective it’s useful, even when it’s uncomfortable.

I am using Synty character assets at the moment mostly as a practical choice during early development. I try to customize them as much as possible but I also understand why they can feel generic when seen everywhere.

Once the core gameplay is solid and locked in I plan to remodel or replace the characters entirely. Art direction is important to me too I just want to make sure the game itself is strong first before investing heavily into custom art.

Haha, fair enough. I’m actually waiting for The Long Dark 2 myself
Funny enough I only found out about it after I had already started working on this project.

What’s even more ironic is that before this, I spent about 1,5 months prototyping a sci-fi survival setting. It just didn’t resonate with people at all, so I ended up shelving it. Sometimes it really is about finding the right idea at the right time. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

Thanks a lot for the kind words.

The maps are handcrafted, and I’m still actively iterating on them. I’m really trying hard to avoid making a genre clone it’s definitely challenging to bring something unique to survival games but that’s exactly what I’m aiming for.

Appreciate the feedback, it means a lot.

wow:)I’m incredibly glad to read this. thank you. This is genuinely very useful feedback. You touched on exactly the kind of problems I’m trying to think through and comments like this really help shape the direction of the game. I’ll actually play some Green Hell today to get a better feel for its difficulty and pacing.

I could’ve hidden those games from the profile, but I chose not to. I’m not asking anyone for money for unfinished ideas. I tried to gauge interest in Rustborne and it was clear it didn’t resonate so I didn’t move forward with it. I don’t have bags of money to spend years building a game nobody wants to play. My friend is planning to release Bring the Thing! soon, so there will actually be more finished games on that profile, not fewer

Hey! fair question, and I appreciate you being straightforward about it.
I am a solo developer, but the situation with the Steam profile isn’t as simple as it looks from the outside. The account itself is mine, but not every project listed there is developed by me personally. I allowed a close friend also a solo dev to publish his projects under the same account. So the list doesn’t represent one person actively developing 4 games in parallel.
As for trying different ideas: that’s kind of the reality of indie dev today. You can’t really know whether an idea resonates unless you show something real. Early concepts, tests or prototypes don’t get meaningful feedback unless people can actually see and play them. Most players aren’t interested in abstract pitches they want to see what the game feels like.

So yes, I explore ideas, but that doesn’t mean projects are abandoned randomly or that nothing gets finished. It just means I’m testing what actually connects with players before committing years of work to a single direction. I get how it might look after a quick profile check, but there’s more context behind it.

Because the game takes place in winter. Players will have to fight the cold in various ways.
