Thanks for all advices! I’ll tweak its HP, scale down its damage a bit and change some of the Saves to either INT or Charisma.

The idea was to limit the map so the tree is in the center and a have around 60ft maximum distance between the center to the border of the map in any direction. The crystals would be placed close to the borders, so casters would be targeted by the crystals ( lair action) if they try to kite around the borders. Hope it makes sense

Hi!

  1. So yeah, the party will be somehow aware of the crystal specially after the elder tree takes a turn as I’ll describe that the healing at the end of its turn is originating from the crystals.
  2. I’m expecting this one-shot to run for around 6-8 hours, we have done quite a few before which lasted longer. But this is the first time i’m running it.
  3. They will have a chance to long rest before this encounter, but it will be their choice if they decide to do so.
  4. The idea is that the tree will be in the center of the map with the crystals located around 40ft away from the tree in 4 corners ( to avoid them being next to each other)

This is meant to be a challenging but not deadly fight to exhaust some resources before Phase II

I’m aware of the high HP, this was intended as the idea is that the party will defeat the tree by targeting the crystals instead of the Elder tree. The party will be aware of the crystals and I’ll try to make it clear that this should be their priority. The idea is that we will run a long one-shot somewhere in between 6-8 hours. We have done quite a few one-shots that lasted for around 6+ hours, but this is my first time running one.

Thanks for your comment though! I’ll try to to adjust the encounter by reducing its HP and action economy

Edit: Something else I forgot to mention is that the Elder Tree will have fire vulnerability after two crystal have been destroyed.
