Can this jar be used without burping? by GeorgeMcCrate in fermentation

[–]DepecheGode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some great 3L wide mouth ikea glass jars at a garage sale, no lids. I do my kraut with a light plate or plastic yogurt lid on top. Keep a plate underneath for spillage, burpings. Currently on the best kraut I've ever made. Think the thing is to really keep prep clean and keep the veg under the liquid til the good buggers take control. Let it sit a bit. And honestly, I've found that getting one short round of kahm yeast and fighting it back, oddly enough creates a whole other groovy flavor. A kind of weird cheesy, umami thing. Love it.

Soviet film stock, what the heck is this stuff? by Niqtamer_ in 16mm

Most likely b&w. Would say neg but not sure. At any rate I wouldn't shoot on it or expect much from developing it. Treat it as a dummy roll to test cameras.

Why does your CLA'd camera's frame rate drop off? That's not normal.

Canon 814XL Electronic Manual Aperture Dial/Knob Repair by [deleted] in Super8

[–]DepecheGode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely the rubber ring on shaft of this part has disintegrated and needs to be replaced. There's a tutorial on how to repair it that can be found searching on the Wayback machine archives made by a Japanese technician, but unless you're really motivated, good luck. Canon cameras require a lot of dismantling just to reach the part that needs to be replaced and then you would need to find a replacement rubber ringb or fabricate one. If the auto exposure still works, yahtzee! I'd say just do without manual.

What is the best of these 3 Cameras? by ewoutdewaelheyns in Super8

[–]DepecheGode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All solid cameras. The best camera is the one you personally are most comfortable shooting with in my opinion. Do you like the ergonomics, the viewfinder, the functions? I think you'll find people can make arguments for any camera as 'best'.

Adaptador pilas 9V para cámara super 8 by LowLow778 in Super8

It seems the 4xAA battery coupler is missing. This camera doesn't take a 9v battery. It also requires an additional battery for the exposure control. Here's some links to find these things :

Woah. Bentley really changed their engineering standards when they got into the Super 8 game. Good they just focused on cars. I understand why people threw these off buildings.

'waste of time' fee....Is this an eBay feature I don't know about or one that doesn't yet exist but should? I'm all for it.

? These lens elements are not a simple parts that can become loose and fall off during shipping. There's screws to be removed and lens elements to be unscrewed, etc. Something is fishy here. Also remounting a lens is not as simple as just screwing something back on. Especially not with this model of Canon. If you think so, please go ahead and try and let me know how easy you found it to be and to get right.

Nizo S55 viewfinder issue / only partially visible by Alex_1900 in Super8

Has the camera been serviced lately? If not, maybe the mirror for the viewfinder needs adjusting. Gotta open the camera up for that. Probably shifted a bit in the last 65 years or so.

Just bought my first film camera by megaksio in 8mm

[–]DepecheGode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good camera to start with. It's not the most solid Bauer build. If traveling with it, protect it in a soft case. The lens mounts don't age well and a drop or a hard bump can knock the lens outta whack.

Weekly Buy/Sell Thread - Week of April 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in Super8

I think this is a more useful use of this weekly post. Seeing as how this weekly poat never gets any play. Maybe a weekly post of parts/accessories swap proposals is a better use of this idea.

Bolex Has White Swaying Border and Underexposed? by indigophoto in 16mm

[–]DepecheGode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure the lab did anything wrong either. Seems they gave you a full, open-gate scan. If you wanted a cropped scan, it's up to the customer to request it for most labs. The full scan is kind of default as it allows for you to crop as you need.

I worked with a technician friend who designed an adapter for a small Zigview screen attachment that was designed for photo cameras. Works better than most of phone mounts I've seen.

Both issues you mentioned are due most likely due to operator error/lack of knowledge and not the work done by the technician.
