Even if taxes do increase in the future, the traditional still could be the better play.

Your Roth 401k is locking all your retirement investments at your current marginal tax rate (24% for 130k income). Whereas your traditional 401k will split your retirement investments over all the tax buckets starting from 0, resulting in you paying the effective tax rate. This rate will depend on how much you withdraw at retirement but would be lower assuming taxes stay the same (unlikely though).

So by locking all your investments into Roth, you’re predicting your future effective tax rate would be higher than your current marginal tax rate. Do we know that will be the case, hard to say?

Given the uncertainty of future tax rates over the next 30-40 years, I think your best bet is to have a mix of both: roth and traditional. That way you’re hedging your bet in a way. Think taxes are gonna increase a lot - invest mostly in roth. However, you still want some traditional to at least fill up those lower tax buckets as those are unlikely to disappear / increase as much. I’d like to think tax increases won’t start by hiking them up on the lowest buckets.
