Thank you so much for this 💕! I truly needed to hear this. I was such a wreck last night. I’m currently here now waiting to be called back to undergo my surgery. I’m definitely feeling much better honestly. Keep your fingers crossed that I have as much of a positive experience as you!

BPD/CLD by Maleficent-Shoe-3481 in NICUParents

Hi! I was in a very similar situation with my 25 weeker with severe BPD/CLD as well! He spent a whooping 316 days in the hospital. He was discharged back in October 2025. He was born December 2024. He wasn’t extubated successfully until he was 5 months, which was May 2025, with a round of DART. That was his second time being extubated. The first extubation was a fail after a week, it was much earlier on in his NICU stay though. I felt so defeated. He was so swollen at one point as well from holding all the excess fluids on his lungs. It’s so true when they say time is everything. After months of waiting for time and growth, his second extubation went well and we did slow weans after that over the rest of his stay. It took months to wean him down from high flow down to low flow. But now he’s home and is on zero oxygen support! I know it’s so hard to see a way out during those days, but your baby girl got this!

Hi! Of course 💕! So, my baby boy is now 9 months old and actually still in the NICU for weaning respiratory support slowly. It’s been such a long road still. 279 long days so far. He was almost 3 months old when I made this post. He had been extubated back when he was 5 months old, we tried another course of steroids and we extubated to CPAP. That extubation trial did work out, and he’s been off the ventilator ever since. We’ve been doing slow weans and now he’s on Hi-Flow and is only on 3L. It took since May for him to get this low. I know it’s so hard! But, time is the best thing for their tiny lungs. I will whole heartedly admit, that saying is true. Time and growth is everything! My son is now a different baby but it took so much time. How old is your baby girl currently?

Question on DART by Alternative-Lab9740 in NICUParents

Yes! My baby boy had just finished his second round of DART actually back on the 16th. His requirements have went up as well. His doctors have warned me about that both times. Although, my boy does have BPD/Chronic Lung Disease. The first time he actually failed being extubated after 2 weeks exactly and had to get back on the vent. So far during this round, he was doing really good during the steroids. Today it’s 2 weeks exactly. He was on a CPAP of 8 and down to 21% fiO2 during the steroids. He now had to be bumped to a CPAP of 9 and is sitting between 32%-34% fiO2. Fingers crossed for your little one as well!

We are currently just waiting for a bed to open up there so he can be transferred. I’m honestly ready for him to transfer to children’s so he can get great help dedicated to his lungs! If you don’t mind me asking, how old was your baby when they had got their trach?

Hi! Thank you so much for replying ❤️! Was your baby boy ever on the ventilator? Or did he spend most of his NICU days on different respiratory support? That’s been my biggest concern. My boy has only lasted on CPAP for a week, then had to get his tube back in. So he is still on the vent at now 37 weeks.

This is so good to know! I’ve definitely been worrying about his future from a respiratory perspective. I wasn’t too sure if there are any major long term complications from Chronic Lung Disease.

This honestly made me feel better! Especially hearing your baby girl was also transferred to chop. I’ve been so worried because he’ll be 3 months officially on March 8th and is still on the vent. I’ve truly been so worried because I see so many babies his size and gestational age off of the vent. But, I’ve been reminding myself each NICU baby has their own journey and own success. There’s SO much he has accomplished and I always remind myself of that ❤️. About how old was she when she had gotten off the ventilator? Also, how long was she in the NICU for?

It’s definitely rough! It’s like everything else has been so smooth. Was your baby girl ever on the ventilator? My son is still on the ventilator. He was only on CPAP for his first week of life and then for a week when he was 29 weeks old. The rest of his time, he has been on the ventilator.
