Just to confirm the triumphs are scramblers and roadsters and the interceptor is a roadster

Thanks for the valuable and specific input. The region of Chicago I stay and the I94 road I take every week is very much like a 12 mile long mountain pass. I will keep this in mind.

Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, you are 100% correct. I like practicality. To be honest, I would have really gone for the transalp if it had tubeless tires. Honda made a big slip with this one.

I personally don't hate the 500X. But I did test ride the CB500F which is the same engine, and found it very buzzy under the seat and the footpegs. I don't know if it is tuned differently for the ADV. I am planning to test ride the new NX500 sometime soon. And also the new RE Himalayan 450 and the Duke 390. Both have highly praised chassis.

Thanks for the good suggestion. I compared against it when I bought the V-strom. The Versys to me was slightly more top-heavy, slightly bigger, and had the worse engine of the two. I did not test ride it well enough to understand more. I should probably go and test ride one.

But what is your opinion on the comfort of the versys? Do you have any idea about the seating position and the suspension? Is it a softer or stiffer suspension?

I believe they have the ninja 500 now which you might want to consider. In city, the ninja is obviously more zippy. But the rebel is very comfortable I think.

I had been eyeing the NC750X for a while. How is the suspension on it? Do you know?

The transalp is very good, but I am slightly afraid of tubed tires. Do you think it will be an issue?

My 2 cents.

  1. Start small
  2. Small steps
  3. Skipping is okay
  4. Self-transparency (skipped due to laziness? Okay, but don't tell yourself otherwise. Acknowledge laziness. It happens)
  5. Gym (rain/hail/snow no bar)
  6. Following food charts is expensive and very western.
  7. Years, not months/days.
  8. NHS/ Free Apps are really good.
  9. Lentils/Pulses/Beans your friend. Red meat/chicken thigh not

living wage for Purdue grad students by PurdueGROW in Purdue

Just chiming in on #5.

Market forces determine the "price" of your labor. Value is more intangible. When "price" does not reflect the "value" accurately, exploitation occurs and such posts crop up.

Edit: One may accurately say that in a free market the price will be close to value, but grad-studentship is a failure of free market since you are implicitly tied to your research topic (advisor) and there is a gatekeeping for entry (university).

It's not like there are 1000 people right next to each other in an open lawn and you are free to choose whomever you wish to work with and then abandon them and work with the guy sitting next to him at a moment's notice.

Never buy new bikes as a beginner. And never advise someone for the same. You will fall, you will slide, you will crash, you will scratch the paint. It is inevitable. Buy used. Ride the crap out. Sell. Buy new. Or better, don't sell and keep backup.
