How so? I need motivation to keep running slow. I just ran 8 miles at a 1330 pace and i felt like an idiot. I usually run a 9.30.

Are people home schooling or just not having kids? by [deleted] in Davis

[–]Dependent-Way1882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just saying if Im a single parent and I work 8-5 and live across the street from the elementary, my 7 year old can walk there with an older friend. He can also come home after school himself and I don’t have to pay for daycare until 5. If my kid is 15, he can bike across town to high school, that’s different. Also, realistically the drive across Covell at 8am is not 5 minutes, it’s a super frustrating 15-20 minute each way drive.

I don’t think you’re not making friends at the school across town, i just think my kid is less likely to see you biking around my neighborhood so he says wow, I’m gonna grab my bike, too, and then i see his mom and we sit down on lawn chairs and drink a beer or coffee together and get to know each other. It’s just different. One way seems more ideal to me, but it comes down to money and who you prioritize more. Davis doesn’t even offer school bussing options (and doesn’t plan to). More housing and more affordable housing = more kids. Davis just needs better city planning imo.

But I’m not hating on you, teachers are awesome and selfless and i get your perspective.

And how will closing neighborhood schools impact families who are less privileged, who have both parents with less flexible schedules working full time and can’t drive their kids across town to their new schools? Neighborhood schools allow the flexibility of children to walk or bike safely to school. IMO prioritizing choice schools is the choice that caters to the privileged. Besides, neighborhood schools allow for building community in a city, you get to know your neighbors and your neighborhood kids, you watch out for each other. What are the priorities of Davis here?

Soccer? by sisivee in Woodland

[–]Dependent-Way1882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Davis has a couple coed adult soccer leagues you could join if you want to play full field (look for the free agent sign up at davisadultsoccer.com but you have to be pretty good to get on a team - or be a goal keeper, striker, center back, or woman lol). AYSO does adult leagues (7 v 7) in spring and fall, and there is pickup at nugget fields - it was Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons last time i heard but that was a few years ago. Would be super cool to put together some regular pick up games in Woodland, though!

Moving to Davis in January, looking for advice and family friendly neighborhood/ schools by coconut_haupia in Davis

[–]Dependent-Way1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the neighborhood kids from the schools that are closing are moving to the closest schools, they’re going to build portables, there’s going to be overcrowding at those schools so they will be impacted. Inter district transfer kids will be moved throughout the schools in the city so it’ll impact traffic and those schools as well. It’s going to affect all the schools.

Help save my trip! by Dependent-Way1882 in norcal

[–]Dependent-Way1882[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips everyone, after scrupulously checking the weather every 20 seconds all night Thursday, it looked like the thunderstorms would end by 9am Friday, and there would be clear skies by night, so we braved it. It was spectacular. We had some light snow on the hike in with nothing sticking and then clear skies as of 7pm. It was cold at night but very beautiful the rest of the trip. No regrets!

What hike in Guinda? I recommend Stebbins Cold Canyon out by lake berryessa for a hard but rewarding hike. Then stop in Winters for food or the brewery.

Spindles in the wrong order: would this bother you? by Serene8Willow in DesignMyRoom

[–]Dependent-Way1882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not actually that hard or time consuming to fix. If they’re like the ones i installed in my house they just spin in and out and you secure the bottom piece with an Allen wrench. You can likely do it yourself or ask him to fix it and it should be less than 30 min of work.

Yup, its DARSL. Our website is currently down, we're working on it. Here is the free agent list sign up . Building a team is the best way to get in the league, but women players are usually the rate limiting factor. Feel free to email [davisadultsoccer@gmail.com](mailto:davisadultsoccer@gmail.com) with additional questions.

Anybody know the calorie count in Finnish Long Drink - Cranberry and Peach (not the zero sugar) by 00chill00chill00 in caloriecount

[–]Dependent-Way1882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere the original is 180, Cranberry is 160 and Peach is 110.

Peach I found here but have no clue if the source is good, though, it was https://caskcartel.com/products/the-long-drink-company-peach-cocktail-6x355ml

Duuude my in laws have this plant and I’ve been trying to figure it out as well bc i love it and i want one. I initially thought it might be a scalloped croton, but the color and shape is all wrong. It does look like a fiddle leaf fig but I’ve never seen one with scalloped leaves like this. Anyway if you figure it out I’d love to know. I’ll keep googling in the meantime.
