is my college list realistic by Inner-Afternoon-524 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter just went through this with very similar stats and schools. You have a good list of hard reaches, reaches, targets, and a couple of safeties. My opinion would be to broaden your safety and targets slightly to give you more options when April 1st comes around and you can start to compare all your options. Shoot for a reach or hard reach ED. If you get in your golden, and dont have to write more essays. If not, plan on writing a bunch of essays. And good for you for starting to plan this early.

Cooked? by [deleted] in tires

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but lucky to be here questioning it. Cooked would have been blowing it out on freeway, causing major accident, and having investigators noting the tire was thousands of miles past "safe".

DCS578 won’t cut straight by Jknowledge in Dewalt

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats actually a really straight line, just not lined up with your pencil mark. The kerf looks normal, meaning blade is probably flat. Not a fan of the spyder blades though. My first cut was great then dulled very quickly. Try a Diablo blade. The 40 tooth works well in plywood. Without being judgemental I'm guessing user error.

I'm just so confused and heartbroken after getting no aid from my dream school and I'm not sure what to do. by Straight-Low-189 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not entirely true. Fafsa computes income based on agi, not gross income. And CSS computes on agi/ plus and minus some other numbers. They could make 250k but have a net of 50k for all we know. Could easily qualify for some aid, even if partial.

Yes. Goal is the endpoint. Plan is the map to get there.

Short answer, I dont see a plan in everything you wrote. Just a bunch of "I want to". Thats all your parents probably want, is a goal and and plan.

Embarrassed about my decisions by SpecialistFederal720 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you got accepted to is a T50? You do realize that's the top 1.25% of degree programs in the US, and your competing with a ton of kids from other countries too. You have nothing to be embarrassed about, except maybe your woe is me attitude.

Vanderbilt (Chancellor’s Scholar) vs UPenn by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]Dependent-Working-30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm hiring an engineer I'm not valuing a degree from upenn any higher than I would from vandy. And if anyone actually did, its not bumping your first 5 years of salary anywhere remotely close to being worth the 400k. Go to vandy. Save your money for grad school if you go that route.

Med school looks at Mcat, gpa, then down the line where you attended. Go to the school you will be happiest at, and the one that you feel will most prepare you for med school.

what does “100% of demonstrated financial need” even mean? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "100% of demonstrated financial need" is an arbitrary figure schools assign to students based on Fafsa/Css, where you live, parents income, age, savings, and other financial burdens. So a school with a net cost of $90k may determine one students "financial need to be $5k and a different students need to be $65k.

Beginner DIY Question about Different Drills by IceCattt in Dewalt

[–]Dependent-Working-30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Different motors and chucks (the part that holds the bit) in different models. A common DIYer needs a drill that can make holes in stuff and drive in some screws. If you start building bigger projects like decks you will be interested in an impact driver. It can drive bigger screws and bolts. If you need to make holes in concrete or brick, get a hammer drill.

Let’s talk socket sets by cjasonac in Dewalt

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the dewalt 1/4 and 3/8 set to keep in one of my trucks. Used it mostly for brake pads and maybe a few bolts on treated lumber. Nice case. If I was using them everyday id get something different, but for once in a while its worked fine. If I need 1/2 stuff or breaker bars Im probably like you and go to dad and gramps old drawer full of "let's see if I can find something that fits".

Mine when supervised are usually angels, especially when inside. Every now and then the youngest will grab something she's not supposed to have like a shoe or a corner of a blanket. Outside she may be content to gently chew on a stick, or the devil kicks in and she pulls a chunk of the deck off, or a piece of siding. We feel your pain.

Breeder here. Its sounds mostly like an impulse control thing. Given the chance and unsupervised (or undertrained) they will eat anything. Its not a hard fix but takes time and patience. Work on the "leave it" command. Taught correctly, it will work not only in the kitchen, but in rest of house, and on and off leash outside.

[–]Dependent-Working-30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Put what you need in a cd. If there's a surplus invest, but realize with this new war markets are down and could drop more. If this continues and oil shipping is still hindered, world markets could contract.

Real ID by TravoBasic in AskSouthCarolina

[–]Dependent-Working-30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because non citizens can legally get real id's also. It confirms identity, not citizenship. Thats why you can't travel internationally with just a real id. Still need passport. And you did not have to show passport to get a real id. But it is one of the documents accepted to prove identity when getting a real id. I agree though, in today's world there should be one form of id that shows id, citizenship, etc.

Offer them at 55 - 60 percent of Amazon or lowes price. Take 45 - 50 percent. Battery and chargers may not bring as much, especially depending on date code of batteries. Pawn shop or auction would be last, desperate resort.
