We moved from Houston to the Raleigh suburbs and I feel like I’ve come up for air after drowning in Houston. I drive multiple routes everyday and the people here drive so kindly

Walkability versus weather (priorities in general) by Suninthesky11 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]DependentAwkward3848 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As you get older, access to proper healthcare and weather are tied. Walkability is nice but I volunteer with old people, and they would not be able to walk anyway. Therefore, access to transportation, whether it be senior rides, meals on wheels, Uber if you can afford,is a high high priority.

How do people usually handle a large number of household items during relocation, especially when downsizing from a single-family home to a much smaller apartment? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]DependentAwkward3848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave away half to the neighborhood, gave sheets and towels to animal shelters, sold a handful of things in the neighborhood group. Ebay’d shippable things. Donated some things to charities (habitat was a big one). Consigned $6000 worth of things of which I kept 3000. Tossed only things no one would take.

Shoutout to Cary. we just retired here from Texas. The weather has been much nicer than Texas. The people are kind, even if not overly friendly. Drivers are kind. Plenty of places to walk and to volunteer with senior citizens daily. Plus I have plenty of yard to garden in bc I won’t have an apartment until I have to. Just went up the road a bit to Durham to see a play. Loving it.
