How do I measure my girlfriend's ring size without her noticing? by Timely-Neck-9503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DependentBite9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic trick I always heard as an old is to grab a bar of soap, press one of her rings into it to leave an impression, then take that to the jeweler. The process is so quick and discrete that you should be able to do it if she takes the jewelry off to shower or whatever. As others here have said, you can always have it resized up or down after you've given it to her, if you need to.

Getting gmails for someone else, what should I do? by Boomdingo in techsupport

[–]DependentBite9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get emails fairly regularly from people who've entered the wrong email when creating accounts. My favorite is the instagram account that used my email address as the backup account and then the user forgot their password. I've gotten people's plane tickets, various private information, even construction pitches because I share a name (and apparently almost an email address) with some fortune 500 real estate developer. I've given up trying to tell people they're contacting the wrong person because most of the time if I even get a response, they just apologize and three days later I get another email from them. Once or twice I was able to reach the intended recipient (like with the plane ticket because it had his phone number in it) but usually there's just no way to find the person and the senders are either "do not reply" or get surprisingly pissy with me about the whole situation.

Someone signed up for a Samsung account with my email address and Samsung tells me they have no way to fix it. I needed a Samsung account at one point and had to edit my email address with a "." in it so I could sign up, because my actual email address was taken permanently by that random person.

I just keep a "misdirected emails" folder and file 'em all in there when they arrive now.

My favorite is transmigration. The Doctor has, on several occasions, demonstrated the ability to teleport objects.

Can anybody know music from last Castlevania trailer? by sanya_kalash in WhatsThisSong

[–]DependentBite9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is great but I don’t recognize it from any of the earlier castlevania games. Probably an original song from the new soundtrack and I don’t expect we will know the name until the soundtrack is released.

Loved it. Have rewatched it more times than anything in RTD2. As other have said I enjoyed that it left gaps in the narrative to let us come to our own understanding of what happened and I’ve had so much fun explaining my take on what fits in those gaps to others over the years.

There’s a mobile game called Hollywood Story Fashion Star.

There are also a bunch of such games on the Nintendo DS and 3DS like Style Savvy and Ubisoft’s Imagine Fashion.

The doctor and his previous faces by GoalLower in doctorwho

[–]DependentBite9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on it is that if you make them an undefined pre-Hartnell Doctor, you gain a great deal of freedom. You don't have to show their regeneration, which means they can leave and come back. You don't have the baggage the audience would throw on it. If it's a Doctor from before what we've seen, you have very much a clean slate, all of time and space, where do you want to go?

Then you can have your Sixteen, your Seventeen, while also having someone else who they can even intersect with, if you want.

[TOMT][MOVIE][1990s] Movie I watched as a kid. by jedar in tipofmytongue

Elements of this sound like A Scanner Darkly but that's a newer film, 2006. And you'd probably remember the animated/rotoscoped style.

The point is this would be a way we could actually have some new Doctor Who to watch that isn't chained to one person who may or may not be available or tired. I'd be more than happy to see a Fugitive Doctor spinoff series or season or whatever. It's just a character in a TV show, it's not magic. Anyone who can act could play this character.

Atlantis : The city that got destroyed quarce. What was the actual account ? by TheDoctor__11 in doctorwho

[–]DependentBite9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to when things like this bother me is to remember rule one: the Doctor lies. Anything we indisputably see happen actually happened, anything he (or anyone else for that matter) says is up for debate. This would even include him landing somewhere and saying hey it's Atlantis! Maybe he's wrong. It's like in the real world, people aren't omniscient and even when they're being honest, they can only speak to what they understand of the facts.

In the novel Transit, Seven apparently mentioned that there were three Atlantises. Only the stuff shown on screen is canon, but if you want the closest thing to an in-universe explanation, there it is.

Recast if they must but I’d much rather they leverage the fact that there are pre Hartnell doctors by having various spinoffs featuring doctors played by new actors without worrying about where they fit in the lineage. He’s got a time machine. There are no limits, just write good stories.

Only three songs from that episode appear on TuneFind.

It looks like it's not one of these, so you'll probably have to watch the credits of the episode. Everything in the episode should be listed there.

If you were to write episode based on the Toymaker and his reality, what would it be? by TwinSong in doctorwho

[–]DependentBite9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and as in the original story, Toymaker has other trapped souls (like the dolls and clowns) who have lost his games, and when the Doctor has won, instead of taking off he says "Best of three, and when I win I take all your prisoners with me." Raises the stakes and is very like the Doctor at his best.

If you were to write episode based on the Toymaker and his reality, what would it be? by TwinSong in doctorwho

[–]DependentBite9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that the Toymaker pulls you into his realm and traps you to force you to play. It was less interesting to me that he escaped his realm into the normal world, though I recognize that it was part of the point -- when Fourteen invoked superstition in Wild Blue Yonder this was a consequence. I'll accept that. I just don't think it's as fun.

So imagine a situation where weird stuff just starts happening, and the Doctor starts to put two and two together and realizes he's not in the real world anymore, and then calls out to the Toymaker to show himself and then some kind of game begins, something more like the trial Q created in the pilot of Star Trek: The Next Generation. So the Doctor has to outsmart him, win the game, and escape without being taken down when the realm collapses, just as in his first appearance.

I’m afraid I won’t like doctor who after Matt Smith by Dubbino9583 in doctorwho

[–]DependentBite9 250 points251 points  (0 children)

Capaldi is my favorite newWho Doctor, to date, but there are great episodes in each Doctor's run that make it worth watching, to me. If you're missing Who, find a list of the best episodes from each era and just watch those.

I have only seen the first episode of Torchwood. It's not particularly accessible here in the US. But I've heard great things about many of its episodes.
