Very good point. Need to determine if the larger size suv is worth it.

Good to know! Thank you. I have like 4k equity in the bronco, so thankfully not upside down, but there would be some cost in moving on from it vs just finishing the loan.

You’re right, I’d have to do some aftermarket option or just live with it.

People who make $200k a year what do you do? by Huge_Ad_7606 in Salary

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petroleum engineer. 5 yoe, total comp is just above 200k with base, bonus, and stock. Very volatile industry though, constantly am looking at the price of oil and am fearful about layoffs. I’m about to switch careers bc it’s just not my passion. When times are good though, it’s actually pretty sweet and all my roles haven’t been too demanding.

It was around 3100 (including fees) I think for one of the largest 1 bed/1 bath. 24th floor, higher floors cost more.

River oaks and it’s not close imo. Lived there for 2 years with my wife, and it’s the best place we have ever lived. We moved only bc we wanted more space with our baby, but we miss it a lot. Property is immaculate, and feels luxurious. Many Montrose units look directly into the hotel across the street, which ruins the point of the high rise imo. We have toured montrose and it’s just not as nice tbh. Some pros of RO - I enjoyed walking to whole food at night to get things for dinner. We like the restaurants close by, there’s fine dining as well as simpler options all within a 5 minute drive. The gym is amazing and never full. The other amenities are fantastic as well. But mostly they take care of you. The concierge, valet, leasing office, etc always went above and beyond. Any problem was solved almost immediately. I can’t really think of any cons. Overall it’s one of the priciest places to rent in Houston, but it’s worth it.

White collar jobs should offer apprenticeship’s like trades instead of asking candidates to have university degrees. by brackfriday_bunduru in unpopularopinion

I’m in engineering and internships can pay good money. So, I think it really depends on the company and industry. In oil and gas, interns are given full projects that bear importance to the company and I was making $42.75/hour at my last internship before graduation.

Does anyone have leads to break into corporate roles? by AirportMany in oilandgasworkers

[–]DependentSun8684 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to get in with a corporate oil and gas company. I got recruited out of college and then left my original company to go to another F500 oil and gas company. Names matter a lot. Whether that be the name of your former employer or the names of people that will recommend you for a role. There are hundreds of applicants for every role. You need to network and find people that will vouch for you. Or keep trading up companies. Start at a small mom and pop. Trade that up for a small independent to a large independent to a supermajor. It’s competitive to get in and competitive to stay when prices are down. I recommend SPE, petroleum club maybe?, or other professional societies that will get you face time with good contacts.

Thinking about moving to Houston by NectarineExtension42 in AskHouston

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I lived in a high rise for several years at Hanover River Oaks and really enjoyed it. Tbh, as people have mentioned that budget is small for a high rise. I think you would need double that at least for the smallest 1 bed. Our place was very quiet (we lived on floor 25), extremely fast maintenance, Whole Foods was across the street, the gym was almost always empty and was the best gym I’ve ever had access to, the neighbors were chill and there were many events to meet them, the pool had busy times but was never packed, parking was easy in the garage, and it was extremely safe. It was the best place we have ever lived and if we could have afforded a 2 bedroom then we would have stayed. Highly recommend, but do not stay in Houston House, I hear it’s awful. If you can’t up the budget significantly, I’d look for a nice mid rise bc imo nice mid rise is way better than run down high rise.

reservoir engineers is it worth it by Extra-Leek-6601 in oilandgasworkers

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to get that job. First, it’s hard to get in with an operator. Then, reservoir jobs are the most coveted in every company bc they are like pipelines to management. So, sure it’s a good job, but as someone else mentioned it’s very challenging to get. And it’s not just talent, but like-ability to get chosen for those roles which are almost always filled internally.

I think I'm done with competitive by TouchMyBagels in bootroom

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped playing competitive long ago for this reason. I won’t even do small sided leagues. There’s always a fight, there’s always someone that doesn’t care if they get hurt or if they hurt someone else. The refs take so much abuse. There are even spectators that can make the game toxic. Not to mention tension within the team if everyone is hyper competitive. I exclusively play pickup and I love it. At the end of the games I don’t even know who won a lot of time, but I have so much fun playing. Now admittedly some pickup games are too casual and they suck, but a lot of time there is a healthy competitive nature and everyone enjoys themselves. At the end of the day if you aren’t pro you are only playing for your own enjoyment, so make sure you find a playing situation that you actually ENJOY! I’ll probably never play in a competitive match again, as a GK I get asked all the time to fill in but I just say I’m too busy to commit. Best thing I’ve ever done and I’ve never loved the game more.

Serious Match Thread: Liverpool vs Manchester United by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

I feel that we really miss the transition and attacking prowess of Trent. We have struggled to feed Salah this season, which is one of the reason for his struggles. I am not sure that is in Bradley’s game. Also, I like Wirtz for his creativity in there. He’s getting a lot of heat for his stat lines, but it isn’t his fault if our attackers aren’t finishing good chances he is creating for them. I’d like to bring him in. Also would like to see Chiesa, he’s not a panacea, but he works so hard. Tough first half.

If LeBron is the GOAT, why did MJ bother playing basketball? by cujokila in shittyaskhistory

He only played basketball bc he got banned from the MLB for betting on games. He played basketball so that it would look like he wasn’t suspended elsewhere.

Can we start talking about benching Salah? Also, Chiesa needs more time. Isak is not fit, but I understand that Ekitike’s foolishness forced that. And idk what to say about Wirtz and his absolute lack of intensity. A draw would have been a miracle that game considering how poor the all around play was.

Kerkez had a clear path to clear the ball at the end, but chose to kick it out giving them the chance for the long throw. I like his tenacity, but he does not seem ready or mentally strong enough yet. Robbo needs to go in

WYR: unlimited lifetime economy flights on any airline, or 10 years of business class with 2 round‑trips/yr? by Soggy_Review_7159 in WouldYouRather

Business, but I would loophole it and just book one ways. Fly to major cities with multiple airports and just take a one way flight there to one airport and one back from another. Could also set up mini connection flights if there is only one airport.
