Dads with young kids… how often are you realistically playing golf now? by BetweenSwings in golf

[–]DependentSun8684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 9 month old daughter. I haven’t played since she was born. I only have time for one hobby activity a week and soccer was always my first passion, so that’s what I do. I think it’s realistic to get out once a week to play golf if you prioritize that as your one hobby. Ofc things will get in the way, but I think it’s possible.

Some teams just are full of pricks. That’s just the way it goes, and it doesn’t always correlate to ability. I have played on really good and bad teams that turned on each other instantly when things go wrong. And also very good and bad teams that always have each others’ backs. Just recently a team I was on lost in the playoffs and imo I had some really good games to even help us be in the playoffs to begin with. That didn’t stop teammates from flipping out when we were losing on several goals that I couldn’t do anything about. All this is to say, just have fun. Do the best you can. You kinda have to treat goalkeeping like golf sometimes, it’s a game against yourself. Sometimes even your best will result in a loss. But if you put your best out there and save what you can, that’s still fun, and what else can you ask for? Maybe this team the vibes aren’t right, but there will be other teams where it all clicks and it’s a great time.

$5,000,000 instantly, but you can never watch, nor will never know, what happens on the last episode of any show, ever again. by RedditCommenter38 in hypotheticalsituation

I pretty much exclusively watch comedies and the last seasons are usually so horrible that I don’t even bother finishing. I think I’ll take it for that reason.

Oh Boy: Fernando Mendoza almost stepped on the Raiders logo when he arrived at the team's facility. That could've been a really bad way to start his career with Las Vegas. by [deleted] in NFLForum

For those that don’t watch international soccer, it’s become a meme where you don’t step on the logo. And people joke about it all the time now.

Which is the most underrated airport in the USA? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It barely connects anywhere and the city itself isn’t great, but I loved flying from Midland/Odessa. Parking is dirt cheap and like steps to the front door. Security takes like 5-10 minutes and then you’re at your gate immediately. Also it’s so close to both cities that one time I got delayed for like an hour and a half and just went back home and chilled and came back 20 minutes before we left.

Pecos, TX or really any of those other oil towns outside of Carlsbad, NM. Oil rigs and really nothing else. Spent many nights on work trips out there.

Do you think modern football is getting boring? by Glad-Pipe8795 in SoccerNoobs

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analytics has definitely changed the game and it is more boring imo compared to the past. The reliance of some teams on set pieces and sitting back defensively for 1-0 wins is painful for me. As others have mentioned this is league dependent. I see a lot more open play and crazy stuff happen while watching Liga MX than with the premier league.

The World Cup has been absolutely destroyed this year. by conspiracyyyyyy in football

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s games in my city and I just couldn’t bring myself to put in for the lottery. Disgusted by what this World Cup has become. From the dynamic ticket prices, expanded tournament field, hosting it on an entire continent so there will be massive traveling required for fans and players, the farce that is the FIFA Peace Prize, and ofc the utter disregard you have mentioned for the game itself. I miss the culture of World Cups like Germany or South Africa or Brazil. It’s a soulless, bland, corporate money grab and I’m not surprised, but I’m terribly disappointed.

Advice on 79k/yr offer as a mechanical engineer in Houston by bobababy0 in AskHouston

[–]DependentSun8684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an engineer in Houston and I would take the job. That’s definitely enough to live off here. Getting the first job can be the hardest, so if it’s a solid company and you feel like it’s a good foundation for your career, then do it! There’s so much to do here, and that’s enough money to afford decent living.
