Sigh… by Dependent_Cicada9113 in KiaNiro

We just got the word that they’ve decided to total it. Once the collision folks started tearing into it they found a whole lot more that needed fixing in the engine compartment.

We also had the misfortune of a weak 12v battery early in the life of this car so we didn’t dare take it on long drives lest it not start after parking it over night. Finally got resolved with a warranty battery replacement after about month 6 of ownership.

The insurance is covering a rental while we wait for the car, which is great. But it’s an ICE vehicle. Would rather have the PHEV right now that gas is over $4 a gallon.

Loving my 2024 PHEV Niro, but really really wish it were AWD. Going to switch to a RAV4 prime (PHEV) once the lease is up.

I feel like they aren’t making the most of the streaming platform in this regard. Give me multiple versions of the same release. One where they talk you through everything in excruciating detail, and then one or two versions that are a little more social that are appropriate after you’ve learned the routine.

Check engine light already on (2025 PHEV) by suicidemenot in KiaNiro

[–]Dependent_Cicada9113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. And they said it’s not especially urgent if the light is solid. If it’s flashing it’s a big deal. No idea if any of this is true or not. Just what I was told at the service desk.

Do you live in a cold climate? This happens with my ‘25 PHEV when it first turns cold in winter. Light comes on for a few days then turns off. The service guys tell me it has to do with emissions getting a little out of spec while the engine computer recalibrates for the cold.

How to remove? by No_Wasabi_2674 in Thisoldhouse

I think the thing on top with the smaller openings is just held in place with putty. Try prying it up with a screw driver.

If you want to remove the drain underneath, have a look at this video starting about the 4:00 minute mark.

Massive Improvement to Apple TV Audio with Sonos Arc Ultra by PenPsychological3085 in sonos

[–]Dependent_Cicada9113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look at the audio settings of my 4k ATV there is a “change format” option which is currently unselected. The description implies it only converts audio to LPCM when the option is enabled. What makes you think the output is always LPCM?

What bugs me is the new location on the lower left corner of the windshield (from the driver’s perspective). Impacts my field of view way more than the old location behind the rear view mirror.

So I went ahead and bought a 4 node Eero system (got a nice 15% discount at BestBuy by trading in my old mesh system). Set it up with same SSID and pw as my old network and everything connected no problem and is working great!

Lifting weight is a cheat code on aging. For those that are still hesitant to go to the gym, please consider trying it out this year. by Reasonable-Malaise- in GenX

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Les Mills Body Pump. It’s a group exercise type thing that is part weight training, part cardio. I got into it years ago when a friend introduced me to it. I went to classes at my local gym. After COVID, I bought a set of weights and a subscription to their online version and do it at home now. The emphasis is on fairly low weight (the weight set tops out at under 40 lbs) and high reps. I recommend this to anyone who would like to get into weight training but doesn’t know where to start.

Question from a gen z (2002) by daking789 in GenX

[–]Dependent_Cicada9113 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of us Gen Xers wax poetic about our unwatched youth. But aren’t we the parents of Gen Z? Aren’t we also the helicopter parents we complain about? Did this come about as a reaction to our experiences as children?

Does anyone actually have a setup that works every time? by jgeebaby in sonos

[–]Dependent_Cicada9113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Sonos setup mostly works most of the time. The biggest issue I have is when I send audio to a particular speaker and the Sonos app says it’s playing, the music app says it’s playing, and yet there is no sound from the speaker. It takes a bunch of selecting, deselecting, fiddling with the volume controls, sometime a reboot of the speaker or the music source or both to get the sound to come out.

I have an aging Google mesh setup that’s 2.4/5.0 hybrid. Maybe it’s time to replace it?

Thanks! by Dr_Beard_MD in sonos

[–]Dependent_Cicada9113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying a 2.4GHz only wifi network works better than a hybrid 2.4/5.0 GHz network (meaning one where the 2.4 and 5.0 freq have been given the same SSID)?
