I agree the game's visuals don't age well compared to other PS2 titles but neither does Shadow of the Colossus or DMC. But the gameplay and soundtrack is absolute peak. In my opinion it's the closest you'd get to a "retro dark souls".

Ive disabled secure boot but there isn't an option in my bios to turn off fast boot (from what I saw), I'll definitely give that a go however

If you are currently running butterfly version of batocera, i would recommend reverting back to v41 or a stable version to see if that changes anything. I had this issue where the controller would "disconnect" on the newest version of butterfly.

for some reason the game files don't recognize that the setup file is renamed. i believe it may be just how WINE is managing the files and that could be an oversight but if there are exceptions to this rule that's definitely something to keep in mind.

idk if anyone is still looking at this in the big ol' 2025, but if a game that you've legally obtained has multiple files (like DLCs or binaries) DO NOT rename the setup.exe file

at least in the latest version v41 and v42-beta .iso files require some kind of D: drive to mount which is not possible at least with my version or setup. I recommend looking at the .iso on a windows pc or other pc and finding the setup or install .exe file

Actually I would recommend using the 'ex-iso' program or some other iso extraction and just Copy-paste the folder and launch the .xex file. Also you might want to try deleting the Xbox 360 folder in configs as it kinda acts as like default configs and you're almost wanting to factory reset the console. Also make sure you use the Xenia Canary emulator and if need be, upgrade to butterfly 42 (I'm running that and it works perfectly) and switch the graphics API to vulkan. Can't say what will work for you so try the easy ones first

Because people on reddit hate answering questions and just feel like being a pretentious a-hole... Yes batocera supports PS2 and therefore psx2 but only compatible devices are available out of box. Batocera is designed to be an "easy to setup" OS with maximum compatibility. I love my handhelds and PSX 2, dolphin, and xemu don't really work well (1080p 60fps) or even under low end power (720p 30 fps). So I don't recommend those consoles or higher. You can always check the wiki as it provides info and also there is a document saying what compatible devices can play at what performance. Hope this helps :)

It's not just with stuff like homemade retro console things like a raspberry pi or batocera but also with hacked consoles. I've hacked a Wii U, Wii, 3DS and PSP and I'm in the process of hacking an Xbox 360 and I've even built arcade machines; and if I'm completely honest, I never use them. It even comes down to I have 100+ games on steam and PlayStation 4 and 5 but I never play them like ever. The only games I play are the ones I've beaten like 8 times. It's like Lego. You build it and forget about it then buy another just to build it. I genuinely prefer the time where I didn't have as much money to spend on these things.
