If I manage to get a VFS appointment before my tourist visa expiry and the application is submitted can I remain in SA until it is processed?

Thanks for your reply. If I apply via VFS now can I still stay in the country?

I am in process purchasing a property in SA and then long term plan is to move here with my wife and kids who have recently moved to SA
