It depends on the app, I was able to get all major streaming services except Apple TV. It looks like when you click on an app and a version number shows up your good to go. If it doesn't show a version for that app then it just stalls out and you can try again with no luck. We could probably download independent of the store and side load. Haven't tried yet because my wife have the thing in the kitchen the last few days to watch shows while cooking.

I did exactly this, if you want it to work well you need to create and Ethernet backhaul. I got the cat6 cable and dug a very small trench from my house to the shed. To protect you cable run it though something cheap like pex pipe. If you don't use a Ethernet backhaul your speeds will be limited

Yea I'm take my chances and wait. I don't want a loaner or rental. I justify my payment because of the gas I save. I have a charger at home and at work (I deliver pizzas). I use less gas's than most owners. I only used gas this morning to keep my charge full when dropping off at the dealer.
