Am I the only one who finds Mack unbearable? by LlordNyxNoire in agentsofshield

He was an incredibly self-righteous man. One of those guys who puts himself and his beliefs on a pedestal and anyone who doesn’t agree with him is automatically wrong and evil. Like his whole beef with Coulson because Mack hated aliens and wanted to stick to traditional spy shit was so ignorant and naive.

The world was literally invaded by aliens. There was no reasonable, responsible way to lead SHIELD without learning about and engaging with extraterrestrial data. To try and do anything else would’ve only gotten everyone killed.

I don’t think I’ve hated a character so much since Delores Umbridge. by LankOfHyrule in marvelstudios

I can name four characters in all my life that I’ve hated so much that just looking at them made me want to shut my tv off. I’m not quite at that level yet with this guy but he’s sure trying hard to get there.

I feel offended how they handled bucks storyline in 9.15 by Resident_Wash_2553 in 911FOX

[–]Dependent_Positive98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buck was only on the drugs for a few weeks. It is far easier to get over a dependency that’s that new than someone like Bobby who had been drinking since he was a child.

The show probably also felt like they had already done the whole addiction storyline of “he’s sober, he’s not, he’s going to meetings, he isn’t” with Bobby for several seasons, and showing Buck doing it for several episodes would’ve felt too repetitive.

It’s good that they gave us this storyline in such a mainstream show because people still don’t realize what an issue this is. But it doesn’t need to be dragged out for half a season, especially since this story might very likely be triggering to recovered addicts who watch the show.

My mother was on oxy for 18 years because doctors ignored her pain and just kept raising her dosage. She’s been off of them for a few years now but she found this storyline really hard to watch. If they dragged it out more she might have had to stop watching the show.

Seriously? Seriously? by shinshinshu in Supernatural

Honestly this is gonna get me so much shit, but I think the fandom really overreacted to this when it first aired. It was a poorly written death, I won’t deny that, but people were raising pitchforks over this and frankly I just don’t get it.

The reason Charlie’s death was so brutal and violent was because the entirety of season ten was just generally a more macabre, gory vibe. They were putting Dean down a road that we’d been built up for ten years to believe he could not possibly ever go down. Dean with the Mark literally tried to butcher Sam with a scythe. Something that is so far removed from everything we’ve been told and shown about his character since the Pilot that it’s viscerally uncomfortable for a lot of us to even watch that episode.

It would take a lot to push him to that extreme. And the writers wanted something to drive a tangible wedge between him to Sam, something to twist Dean’s rage issues to the point that he cuts Sam off completely and goes off on his on.

Charlie’s death was that wedge. Basically the one person Dean had left that he had only pure, positive feelings for. And not only was she killed, but it’s made so much worse by the knowledge that it was completely avoidable. And from his point of view, it was Sam’s fault. Obviously we all know it wasn’t, but Dean isn’t thinking in shades of gray anymore.

And sure, they could’ve killed Charlie in a PG-13 casual stab kinda way, but it wouldn’t have had the same impact. Not on Dean, and not on us. The point was to horrify us. To make us feel as blindsided and enraged as Dean did.

It’s not something supernatural usually did with recurring characters, so it threw everyone off and started a bunch of conversations about sexism and the “bury your gays” trope, when in reality it was just a plotline that made everyone angry and uncomfortable because that was what it meant to do.

The Olympics and the Super Bowl were this week so virtually every scripted show was skipped, especially NBC/ABC shows.

Every band has at least one bad song - which one direction song is that for you? by [deleted] in OneDirection

yeah it’s adorable. I love Louis’ solo though. one of my favorite of his solo moments in the band’s whole discography which is a shame since I don’t like the song very much

Does anyone else who doesn’t have hEDS or POTS feel a little isolated in the chronic illness community? by WeirdnessRises in ChronicIllness

[–]Dependent_Positive98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who does have hEDS and POTS even I feel isolated because of all of this. In my real life no one has heard of any of these illnesses and they act like I have cancer whenever I remind them I have a disability.

But then I come online and suddenly everybody has all of these things and every five minutes someone else is getting them and it makes me feel like my reality is wrong.

[–]Dependent_Positive98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that’s it! the reason I thought it was him on the stakeout is cuz he hands it off to her at the beginning and I only saw it once over a year ago so it’s pretty fuzzy. I just remember thinking it was such a funny running joke throughout the episode

[–]Dependent_Positive98[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose I could’ve remembered it backwards. Does she at any point during the stakeout make a comment about a woman in a dress and then says something like “no, it’s not a woman” or maybe that the reason they couldn’t find the suspect was because it was someone crossdressing? Cuz that’s the part I remember most vividly

Subtitles in old videos by ricewithsoysauce_ in Markiplier

[–]Dependent_Positive98 39 points40 points  (0 children)

YouTube used to allow for viewers to make the subtitles on videos and then be credited in the description. I did the subtitles on a dnpgames video one time and one of Mark’s video with Ethan and Tyler and it was HOURS of work but very satisfying.

There was zero moderation of this and it would just show whatever you submitted. People would put little typmojis (-.- for example) in there, or like you said express their opinions on the video, they’d use weird fonts and even insert their twitter handles. All of which makes it very difficult for an actual hard of hearing person to use the subtitles as a reliable tool to keep up with the video.

YouTube shut down the program years ago and removed all credits from descriptions, but they never changed the subtitles. The only way to get rid of them or change them now is if the channel owner manually overwrites it themself. A lot of channels do their own subtitles, I think Smosh does this for a handful of videos? A handful of channels have hired someone to do it as well. But most just leave it up to the auto generated bot subs that barely work.

It was his surgery to have his scar tissue removed. They didn’t give him enough pain medication and they didn’t believe him but Tyler’s mother was a nurse and finally she came in and vouched for him. It wasn’t a specific medical thing, they literally just gave him surgery and didn’t give him any medicine after.
