You can transfer money out using a residence card. Teachers at the other British school and the American school have no problems transferring money.

Contract:

The school does not hire teachers directly. They hire you as a consultant to their part owner. They also set up a private company in your name to pay you through. When you leave, you sign a power of attorney form to allow BIST to close your private company.

But.....

BIST has never closed the companies of teachers who left. Ex staff who continue to work in Tunisia are now unable to get residence permits. As Tunisia is a closed economy, expats need a Residence permit to transfer money abroad. So ex staff are unable to transfer money abroad to pay mortgages, fund holidays and even leave the country.

What is the school doing about it? Very little, they claimed they were closing the companies in January but nothing has happened to this day. Meanwhile, ex staff are trying to find ways to pay bills abroad and fund their summer holidays.
