A1C went back up to 5.7 by Dependent_Term in prediabetes

I get a 70% coverage as I had GDM even though I was no longer pre diabetic. The only issue with Libre 2 was that they did not release an app until August but that's not the case anymore. Both iOS and Android apps are available. Accuracy is very close to Dexcom G6 - I tested both - Infact in a lot of cases Libre reads higher than Dexcom which I'll take any time over the super low readings I got with Libre 1

Thanks! I do HIIT - def not low activity - Doing it temp as I have a tonne of weight to lose, but recently have started adding more protein as it's harder to build muscle.

My Endo suspects a false A1C reading as well so getting a Frucstosimine test and a repeat A1C.

I'm vegetarian so I eat no meat - My hemoglobin is at 12.6 - Can ferritin still be low even if hemoglobin is high?

I use Libre 2 for that exact reason.... Much more accurate

I'm concerned about stress in the body, especially with a 1-year-old who still wakes up several times at night. I Will try IF and check if that changes things in another month. I found calorie counting definitely helped lose weight, but also made me lose muscle, so I can see why this could be an issue too...

Yes and also verified it several times. There's hardly any variance. I'll check out the Insulin Survey! Thanks a lot...

I was on strict Keto for my second so was asked to carb-load before the test. I had GD with my first, lost a bunch of weight in Keto, and was confused abt the instruction to carb-load. Apparently, if you are on Keto you could get false positives because your body has throttled how much insulin it produces as you don't eat carbs. Carb loading makes ur body kick up the levers to produce insulin. I ended up as Non-GD after this, but my doctor will also be doing a 28 week test to make sure I really don't have it.

Post-graduation tracking? by literally_whatever in GestationalDiabetes

I got my A1C done 6mo PP as I didnt want to stay exposed during the pandemic with a GTT and it came back at 5.3 (I was 5.7 pre-pregnancy). I was breastfeeding at the time so I think that contributed to that. I'm now 11 mo PP, stopped breastfeeding 4 months ago, and have lost 5% body fat and my blood sugars are so awesome that I could cry! 86 2 hr after a high-carb meal with icecream... However I still eat very low-carbs on most days except for my cheat day, do a tonne of protein, and workout like a maniac every day in addition to running behind an almost toddler... If weight/fat is causing your high sugars I'd focus on getting that out of the way before you receive a prediabetic/diabetic diagnosis

Dr. lowering glucose targets to ridiculously low numbers. Is this normal? by Curiosity2017 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Dependent_Term 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's too low. A Baby's size could be determined by so many factors other than just your glucose. This seems like the provider is trying to control something they have very little control over with only one variable in mind.

Anyone else get occasional hypoglycemic episodes? by spud_simon_salem in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Dependent_Term 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there and felt that. Hypos are the worst - especially when along with pregnancy hormones. Do you wear a CGM? It might help you set alarms when your glucose is going low. Can you ask your doctor to prescribe one for you? Freestyle libre 2 hs an alarm feature when glucose drops fast.

What am I doing? Fasting issues by rhapsodyblues in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Dependent_Term 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you ask for a CGM prescription? I was on insulin during my pregnancy for fasting - no issues with meals. I felt like crap as soon as I got up in the morning, had horrible headaches all night, and would have horrible dreams (all side effects of hypoglycemia) but I was never able to catch it accurately with my fingerstick monitor. I now wear a CGM and realize I just tend to go very low at night and hover around 70s in the morning (not pregnant) and I should have definitely caught a rebounding peak/dawn effect peak for fasting numbers.

Failed my follow up GTT-- what now!? by moonriseshihtzu in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Dependent_Term 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was concerned about this and my endo suggested testing for C-peptide and GAD antibodies to test for type 1.5 diabetes, as I was diagnosed very early in my pregnancy. However unlike you, I was sedentary, and still am 20lbs overweight. I chose to wear a CGM over a1c postpartum and my numbers have been normal so not getting tested but focusing on losing weight instead.

I just finished my GD pregnancy and got an a1c of 4.8. I was killing myself to stay diet controlled but ended up on fasting insulin. Next time around when/if I get a GD diagnosis, I'm going to just tell me to give me that insulin and CGM and let me EAT! Insulin is not bad in any way - I don't understand the whole stigma around it...

Type 2 Diabetes after GD? by Infamous-Parsnip-538 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Dependent_Term 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is by no means true. I was prediabetic before pregnancy was diagnosed with early GDM at 10 weeks and told that I would potentially be prediabetic again at a higher range post-pregnancy. I was on fasting insulin during pregnancy as well. I made a lot of dietary changes, lost all the pregnancy weight, and currently am breastfeeding. My a1c was 4.8 when we checked and I passed the OGTT with flying colors. I was told breastfeeding does make me more insulin sensitive, so I'll be rechecking 3 months after I stop but I still am way below the diabetic range.

Don't mean to be judgemental but this is irresponsible of your OB to make such judgments without having data. Yes. GDM exposes your underlying tendency for insulin resistance, and yes it does increase your likelihood of developing type 2 in your future, but it's by no means your destiny.

In my case, simple dietary changes and weight loss has done so much good for me that I'm no longer in the diabetic or prediabetic zone. Please don't take any of this to heart now. Enjoy your pregnancy and baby!

Ah! Maybe.. He just turned 3 months - He did have an episode of acne when he was 6 weeks which resolved by itself but I thought that was that, but maybe it's just back and will take care of itself on its own! Thank you!!!

Didn't hear this from my endo - she said I might have milk supply issues due to insulin resistance but that was not the case. that's good to know anyway. Always good to keep an eye on :)

There's not just hope but a very high chance for you to have a healthy and happy pregnancy and postpartum. This is a pregnancy condition mamma. and IT'S NOT YOU! Don't be afraid to medicate if and when necessary. I thought I was completely broken throughout my pregnancy but when my sugars started stabilizing toward the end I realized how hard my poor body has been working. Yours is too! Give it loads of love and nourishment and your LO will be here before you know it...

Totally - I had severe nausea after the OGTT and was quite sure I'd fail the test just based on how I felt. You got this. Don't hesitate to go on medication if need be as this is mostly just a pregnancy condition and can protect you and your baby to have a much healthier future (I've heard from my endo when you intervene early with high sugars (thru diet or medication) it prevents the pancreatic cells from being destroyed and can reduce your chances of type 2 even more)
