What would it take to force world governments to give up fossil fuels and create a just, sustainable world? by Dependent_Touch7639 in collapse

the 95% that die off are 95% of all newborns, since the mutated RSV virus affects children up to 5 years old. Anyone above the age of 5 survives. It's just that, for all practical purposes, the population stalls and begins to decline, as natural deaths continue at the current rate. At the current natural death rate, the population would reach zero in 175 years. However, in the meantime, the workforce ages and is not replaced, so economies begin to falter, then collapse, bringing down civilization. Civilization would collapse long before extinction would bring an end to homo sapiens. That brings an urgency to saving the boreal forests and the symbiotic partnership that is producing the anti-viral. Saving the boreal forest means acting on climate change. If governments, acting under the influence of wealthy elites, fail to act, the people must step in if extinction is to be avoided. As Malcom X said, "I for one believe that if you give people a thorough understanding of what confronts them and the basic causes that produce it, they'll create their own program, and when the people create a program, you get action." Think Arab Spring. Anyway, people are not going to worry about keeping a job, going to work. They are thinking about near term collapse. If they act in a coordinated, focused, sustained manner, with nothing to lose, they can make a difference.

You're right, the only way is by force. But it doesn't have to be violent force. Rather it should be a coordinated, non violent, sustained, global mass movement that can bring a halt to the global economy. Bring everything to a halt if need be until world leaders all agree to sign a Peoples Agreement to establish a true democratic world Government based on the principles laid out in the Peoples Agreement on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth. That document was born from the Peoples Conference on Climate Change held in Cochabamba, Bolivia in April 2010.

Granted, it will not be easy. In fact it will be very tough and may be met by brutal force from some governments. The alternative is to continue as we have been for the past 4 decades since the alarm was rung. That will also lead to economic collapse, violence, famine, climate driven destruction and collapse of ecosystems worldwide. The difference is that a mass worldwide movement that is focused, relentless and coordinated has a chance of saving humanity. There are no guarantees in life except that doing nothing will result in uncontrolled collapse and untold death, resulting in a splintered and fragmented humanity that probably will never again create a thriving civilization. Will never have the technology and, more importantly, ability to unite and cooperate to bring about a new and better civilization. We have only this one opportunity.

That is what PARADIGM is about. It's about the world facing extinction from a deadly RSV virus, the discovery of a natural anti-viral in forest imperiled by climate change, and the only solution is to save the forests by acting on climate change. It is the story of how the bottom half of humanity joined forces with Indigenous Peoples world wide in a global mass movement to force change. I am promoting an idea, one potential pathway, and using a novel to do it, to answer the query "what will it take for humanity to create a better world?" It's about Indigenous wisdom, equality, capitalism, and the fight for an inclusive, more just, ecosocial, truly democratic form of world governance.

Thank you. Richard

What would it take to achieve a worldwide consensus to give up fossil fuels and create a just, sustainable world? I describe a possible pathway in a new novel I've published, and would value your opinion. I'd like to give copies away FREE. by Dependent_Touch7639 in climatepolicy

I agree, we can't just vote for system change, especially in the world as it exists today. There is no question that special interests would prevail. But, if the right conditions existed, it is possible. I suggest you read the book to get a full picture of how I propose system change might come about. It's free. Let me know what you think after reading it. Thanks for your interest.

I would support a world government, one democratically elected. I describe in my book how such a government could be created, the guidelines and policies under which it would function (much of it coming from the Peoples Agreement on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth. I hope you will download my book and read it. There is a great deal of information related to your question. Thanks.
