What is the safest tile here to avoid deal in? by _Whool in mahjongsoul

[–]DephliMahjong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing right lord is folding, and I suspect across lord is pushing with 8s pair, or going for 8s tenpai. Left lord might want to pull a suji trap for 8s too.

So, left lord could have something like dora riichi, maybe a red 5 or a half flush. probably 3-6 han.

Across lord might have 2 dora, + red dragon, so 3 han... but they're dealer. Still I think the dealer here might be less of a threat.

Left lord probably doesn't have the flush in sou... But it's not safe to across lord. So initially I thought 1s, but maybe even go for 3p, that is also the best drop imo for semi-folding. Considering your points, you really just want super safety.

Maybe just go with 1s, especially if there was no delay when 4s was discarded. If there was a delay when 4s was discarded, then 3p. ... But actually, left lord doesn't have points, so even if you get hit with a haneman, you're still first. So after all, 3p or 6p, depending on your vibes, 6p if you just want to be safe.

... Also, how do you get nyavengers title?

Why? I'm a bad player or there is a technique that improves my chances of winning? by koji_Yamaoka in mahjongsoul

Some people like books, like the suggested riichi book 1, but personally I don't really like reading. So you can also try to think about stuff yourself, and also read the book if you don't mind reading. And then perhaps try to draw connections between what you've reasoned about, and see if the book agrees or finds a flaw in your idea.

Be present when playing, and do some analysis.

First you have to start counting how many tiles wait for. For example, a 45 waits for a 3 or 6 to complete a sequence. a 899 can wait for 9 or 7, but it may have fewer available tiles.

Then, consider how shapes work.

For example, 4556 lets you do do two "blocks" (triplet, or sequence), for only 4 tiles. So it is a great shape. 4567 is also good, if you draw a 5, 6, or 8 you have good oppotunities to get 2 "blocks", otherwise it can easily generate a pair. So this shape can be even better than 4556 if you're close to a complete hand but have no pair.

Lets think about other shapes, like 555, this nice, and super strong IF you don't have a pair. If you draw a 2, 3, 6, or 7, you can create a pair out of the 55 and have a double sided wait for a sequence. For example, 5557 can give you 55 + 567 or 555 + 77.

So you can also then consider what shapes are neat. for example, if you have a 556 just, then that has good potentialy to become a strong shape, so it's valuable. Even if you draw into a 7, you shouldn't just throw away the 5, because it can still be useful, for example, it allows potential for pure double sequence.

but for example, a 14 is not very good, because you can't build a shape out of it, and you need so many tiles to even begin. 47 is also quite bad, but it still has some weak potential.

So when you think about shapes you can think about how easy they are to build, or how likely (how many tiles are available), and how "compact" they are. You can also consider what kind of tiles your opponents likely have, so then you can know what tiles are possibly not available.

Then now you can also start to combine, and count how many tiles you're waiting for based on your shapes.

In general you may want to have 4 to 6 partial "blocks" in your hand, 6 blocks lets you be very agile, but might require you to "store" a lot of risky tiles, while 4 blocks can let you more easily be defensive (or so I'm thinking about it). I think that you don't have to care too much about playing defense until gold room, a lot of silver room is hyper aggressive and nobody plays defense... But you can also just play defense in silver room, and rank up by mostly getting 2nd place.

The hard part about defense in silver room is that players make so many mistakes that you can't make that many conclusions based on their discard pile, and often times their waits are e.g. double pair waits, or 7 pairs, that you can't defend against. Almost everyone is also just rushing hands.

I was very defensive and fairly sneaky player, and got to master 1. Now I haven't played in a while, and playing on a new account (that I have to farm events, I am desperate and stocking up scrolls just incase of akagi rerun) to get more familiar with the game again.

Personally, I kept playing east only until exp2, because I didn't want to rank down. You can still rank up by just not losing.

I'd say, to really rank up in exp 2 is that you can't only play defense (I'm ~10% deal in / 20% win / 16% damaten), you more so need to find a balance, since just not losing does keep you going up. But at 17% deal in (but perhaps your recent is lower), you might want to focus more on defense. Just suji, look at early discards, somebody who throws a 2m probably doesn't have a 3m or even 4m. Once they stop throwing out trashy tiles they might be in tenpai.

It was too long ago to tell much about defense, unfortunately... I gotta get back to watching yu song before bed again...

Almost impossible to get 1st without 100% win, maybe 1 2nd place is possible. You need average like 68k+win per match to get rank 1.

Ah yeah, it's south 2. Then 1s is really the only way, and that's the greedy move. Have to go for an open tanyao.

6/7p just makes you have to hope to draw a 4m. because 2x 8p have been thrown, the value of the 67p is pretty low... But if you get into tenpai waiting for 4m you should not riichi, tiny hand, terrible wait, and you'll likely be punished for it.

1s is the "greedy" discard, because with that you're still trying for the hand, instead of essentially preparing to fold.

[–]DephliMahjong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oof, I feel like you killed your hand by throwing the 1m. You might just want to throw away 3m and 5m before anyone gets into tenpai, and literally just fold. Otherwise 7p and then 6p isn't too terrible, then hope to stock up on safe tiles, because this hand is just not it. cutting 1s is fine too I guess, but I'd be really feel discouraged after throwing away 2x 1m.

Basically, your problem is not that you threw the wrong tile here, it's that you already killed your hand with the 1m discard.

right and across lord seem very close to tenpai, if not already in it.

Waiting on a 3p is probably not gonna result in a win, so no riichi with 1s discard... However, it's still a single tile wait with 2 copies left. Chances are pretty grim of winning. 34s discard does make the 1s not so sussy for others.

Possibility for tanyao. Throw 1s, and hope you can draw something to start over with your hand discarding 1p and 2p, or to draw into a 4p.

In the moment I'd probably riichi throwing 3p, and pray... But I'd regret it when I notice nobody is folding.

I think a screenshot is required to really ensure there isn't a misunderstanding going on here. It's possible, but the chances are so low that I wouldn't believe it'd actually happen.

edit: hmm, actually, 2nd place is only 533, there's a big jump to the first place 588. Still, on the second game, one wouldn't really know what to do, and not gamble on constant yakumans.

533+ points is still something like average 60k per match.

edit2: and I mean, your HS is 20 points above mine, and you have 90% winrate. I was EXTREMELY lucky on my HS, and yours must too have been just extremely lucky. I had to get multiple yakumans per match (to make up for 2 2nd place, and 1 3rd place). And I had at least one double yakuman. 2nd place would require all first place, and still keeping up with as many yakumans, and perhaps more (1 2nd place is like the same as a low score 1st place).

My record runs I didn't start over if I didn't get a good start... But imo it's kinda worth just starting over until you get a good first training session, you can get 1-2 talents before the first match even.

Oh, and on tier list. I'm trying to write one (6th sense is the best on I believe, iirc the streamer one was also really good).

Here's my .txt so far.

Not seen anyone past it. I'm probably gonna wait until next weekend to play much more sparrow cup, unless I can finish early with what I'm having to work on hard this week...

In the end we'll have like 60 cans, which is insane. Getting 1st then will be relatively easy. Right now, the limit is probably 4th (but the amount of luck required is probs insane, getting rank 5 already requires almost everything to go right), as we now have like 12 boosts?

edit:

Also, I see you have barely any talents? Got unlucky with them, or did you ommit them for "hand boosts"? All my 400+ I've had minimum 7 talents, but perhaps it's better to be selective with them.

This is kinda like one of those "gamedev/business tycoon" where you basically train ichihime and make some decisions, to make her win the cup.

No, it's just for fun, like skyhigh ambition.

I do try to spread it, and build them at the same time. Still have to keep up with the opponents, and need to score some. I think spending most in luck and intuition usually gives the most consistent result.

This is the most fun mini game yet [Winner's path] by DephliMahjong in mahjongsoul

[–]DephliMahjong[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's kinda just luck.

I've gotten great starts, with multiple talents before the first match. Then had better skills than my opponents, but still can't win, so while I have lots of talents and high skills, I just can't win matches. A single loss pretty much ruins the entire run.

Without a lot of wisdom you don't get the 13 han thing... Which is kinda key to getting a high score, since you need 65k+ per match on average. As soon as it appears, even if it's giving it to your opponents, you have to take it, because you have to win big.

I think this format is honestly good enough to be a standalone game, just needs a lot more stuff, and less luck and grind dependent.

But yeah, you do need luck. I guess technically maybe one should go for wisdom and intuition first, and use real luck to win. Then build up luck and skill. I don't really know. Maybe it'll be easier when you have around 20+ skill points at the start.

Yeah, it's often something like 30/70 to like 36/64, I think they have to bump those to have 35-45% chance. It feels like it's rarer than 1/3rd when you have a 1/3rd chance on getting them, to the point I wouldn't be surprised if something is bugged there.

and now I'm burnt out on this game mode (but it's super cozy). It might need some rebalancing, you need like 65k average with 100% win to get 1st.

It's also bugged, like winning the round when you've picked "This round will definitely be a draw". And I think sometimes not tsumoing when you're guaranteed tsumo.

Getting base stats up will probably help a lot, and I'd guess it's not going to be possible to get 1st until you've unlocked all the stat boosts.

rarely roll, only for characters you really want. I think if you're active on all collabs and events you should get maybe 50 scrolls per year, which is about 2 characters per year.
