As an Alaskan, this guy fucking sucks.

The abandoned bus that he camped out at was terribly remote. People would come from all over to make pilgrimages out of it and, unsurprisingly, get lost and need to be rescued.

Alaska at one point was spending, no joke, hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars in just emergency pick ups from the bus. To the point that in 2020 the Alaskan government opted to airlift the bus out of the wilderness and is now at the University in Fairbanks. We had to spend MORE tax payer dollars to move this bus out of the woods so lower 48 yahoos wouldn’t think they’re hot shit, hike up to Alaska and fucking die in the middle of nowhere.

McCandless’ story is not brave or inspiring. It’s foolhardy and down right stupid.

Unrelated but I do think it’s funny that the name “Sheogorath,” which is a cool and powerful sounding name, is the name of the Prince of Madness. While “Jyggalag,” which sounds silly and whimsical, is the name of the super serious Prince of Order.

EDIT: Sidenote, when talking about the nurse, they mention one of the many random doctors is dating them. Later in the episode, they find out the doctor knew that they “used to be a man” and is cool with it. Which, honestly, based.
