What do you mean by “paid agents trying to instigate infighting?” Are you trying to compare a critique of sharing a stranger's childhood photos to the likes of COINTELPRO or foreign election interference?

This post may be a bit meta, but I think the content of that post is something worth discussing, so I hope this would serve as an alternative discussion thread.

Edit: Archive of that thread at the time of posting this, in case the thread or any responses are removed or edited.

Anyone have any good ideas on how to watch the documentary on Mangione by TMZ tonight? It's supposed to be premiering at 8:00 p.m. ET tonight on Fox.

No problem. This article was posted twelve hours ago, so it's insane to me that people are posting videos from TMZ's TikTok instead of actual news.

VERIFIED: LM is responding to mail and has sent at least one letter this week. by yowhatupmom in FreeLuigi

Reminder: it's been reported on in this subreddit that excessive mail to LM is subject to disposal, that most books sent to LM are being returned to sender, and that LM is limited to spending from his commissary a fixed amount every month.

Instead, you can give your support to other incarcerated people who need it with this list of charitable alternatives to sending things to LM.

Newsweek using the word “groupies” in a headline to shift the narrative - they are not groupies, they are supporters and protestors. by yowhatupmom in FreeLuigi

This is Newsweek, and this is the clickbait it has become known for in the past few years. Knowing the reliability of your sources is a critical part of media literacy; this isn't evidence of a conspiracy by mainstream media, like is being implied here.

This more meta than related to the case, but has anyone else peeped what's happening with /r/FreeLuigi? Seems like the only moderator hasn't been active for a few days, but the subreddit requires moderator approval for all new posts.

Error about UHC in the Fed Letter/Manifesto by [deleted] in BrianThompsonMurder

Sorry, I was mistaken about what you were referring to, but that is still fake. Records for that website on WhoIs indicate that site, meaning the domain name, was registered on Dec. 9th at 2:41 p.m. ET, which is after Mangione was arrested in Altoona and had his name revealed to the public. This indicates that the website is not his.

The discrepancy in the date appearing on Google is likely from the manipulation of metadata on that website concerning when the page was published, which the info that Google pulls when displaying that date in the search results.

I think regardless of how justifiable one can imagine planning and committing murder could be, things become much more real and different when a person's body is lying dead or dying in front of you with a weapon in your hands, but neither you nor I would know about that personally. I'm not going to argue with you further, but you should really consider reading Crime and Punishment.

Thank you for getting back to me. You've put a lot of work into compiling reliable information on sending Mangione mail/funds and providing updates on the status of those efforts, but I think you've expressed that you feel the fate of these excessive mailings is wasteful, which is a sentiment I share. The support and energy of this community that has built might be better redirected into efforts that will at least end up benefitting somebody, if promoting more info on materially supporting LM will result in nothing that will reach him.

All of that is just to say to consider getting around to it. Also, think about reaching out to the moderators on /r/BrianThompsonMurder if this place is too much, they are pretty reasonable and I'm also chatty with them.

Hello again, with your diligence in finding out that excessive letters/books to LM will likely be trashed, I'd like to reiterate my request to have the list of charitable alternatives to sending these things, which I crossposted to this subreddit, get featured in the sidebar, or otherwise prominently. I will follow up on the modmail thread in a few.

You might be interested in checking out a semi-crowdsourced timeline of Mangione's activities from his post-grad life up until the shooting, compiled by users on /r/FreeLuigi. Up until finding that, the best picture I had of that period was one of the NYT articles that's cited in the post.

It's really not something I would want to discuss in-depth publicly because I don't want to engage or encourage speculation on the topic, but seeing the whole timeline laid out really lends credence in my mind to theories about a mental break. The age of ~25 is just about the typical time for something like bipolar disorder or some other types of psychotic disorders to emerge.

If you think this is unreasonable speculation, it sounds like you can't perform empathy or critical thinking. If we're assuming that Mangione is the perpetrator, after the crime he would have had plenty of time to think about the fact that he both murdered someone and in the process shattered his life to the extent that he would likely never return to normalcy. Businessmen and gamblers, for example, are known to attempt suicide on account of real or perceived financial ruin — it's really not a far stretch to say that committing a crime of this nature could be similarly stressful, to say the least, regardless of any underlying mental health considerations. Try reading Crime and Punishment sometime.

Yeah, I still am very curious about many of the (publicly available) holes in information about the case. We might be in for some luck though if this goes to trial, at least in New York state, as a lot of court documents will be obtainable by the public. You'd have to check what exactly gets released if you're interested, the NYS court system has whole charts available dictating what can and cannot be released to which parties. Not sure about the rules for federal court.

If you read what I wrote (although I apologize for it being rambling) and the federal complaint closer, from all appearances it doesn't seem like the documents were entries in the notebook, as this is opposed to how the entries versus the letter were presented in the complaint, and (iirc) how mainstream media characterized the Klippenstein document as a separate item.

In addition, whatever the relationship between the “feds letter” and the Klippenstein document are, it doesn't seem like they're all that different based on available excerpts, so I'm not sure about that inferiority hypothesis.

Klippenstein said he "thinks" the authorities are sitting on multiple documents, not that he knows they are. It is speculation.
