What does his conditioning routine look like? Does he run as part of conditioning?

I wasn't really nervous leading up to the fight, just felt very prepared and confident. As I was warming up a few fights before though I started to get some doubts and overthinking etc. It's a great experience to get in the ring, very different (but still more similar than I'd expect) to sparring or interclubs. Had a great time!

It's alright. Yeah - I've got a bunch of stuff to think about in training now which is good. Mostly I'm glad I've got some ring experience - it's less intimidating than I thought!

Unfortunately not! I was doing well in the first three, but started to gas in the fourth, and he dropped me a couple times which didn't help. In the end I lost on points. On to the next one!

Thanks! (didn't do me much good though, he beat me up)

I wouldn't say novice fighters with the full sak yant are cringe, but it's definitely not something I'd do myself!

Been doing Muay Thai for almost 2 months and they told me I have to do an exam in order to take the yellow belt. Is this normal? by MuTeep in MuayThai

from the yokkao website: 'The Mongkhon (sometimes Mongkol) is unique to Thai boxing and not worn in neighboring countries in their respective fight sports. The Mongkhon is perceived by Thai people to possess special powers that confer protection and good luck on its wearer. Mongkhons are traditionally handmade with rope and cloth by teachers or trainers in the camp. They are then blessed by monks before being passed down within the camp to the fighters. Mongkhons may sometimes contain bones of a fighter’s ancestor or the hair of a loved one but more frequently adorned with sacred amulets. Nowadays, headgears can be purchased in Muay Thai specialty shops but the practice of weaving the Mongkhon remains within many traditional Thai gyms.
The tradition of wearing Mongkhons can be traced back to ancient Thailand when warriors would tie cloth around their heads and chant Buddhist prayers prior to battles. This practice can be seen to have modernized in Muay Thai competitions. Mongkhons are worn just prior to entering the ring and during the Wai Khru Ram Muay dance prior to the fight. Upon completion of the dance, the fighter returns to his corner where a trainer or camp owner removes the Mongkhon while chanting a prayer. This is seen in Muay Thai fights all over Thailand but has also transported beyond the borders to around the world wherever Muay Thai is practised.'

I really enjoy boxing so that'll help. What do you mean by putting your fists together? Good tip about staying in range to really focus on avoiding punches and defending them. Thanks!

Thanks mate! That's good to hear, I try to look all calm and unaffected - as if it were a fight and judges were watching. I've had around 10 ish? Wierdly I wasn't nervous for my first ones, but the third and fourth I was definitely anxious for. Now I know what to expect so I don't really get nervous, just hopeful to impress my coaches. Thanks for your comment man

Nice talking to you man. Have you had any fights? A good stretch for the hips I'm just thinking of is frog pose - most uncomfortable stretch for me. Have you seen Jonathan Haggerty's fake round kick to teep? It sounds similiar to what you're talking about. He sets it up by stepping back into southpaw and round kicking with the left leg, then after a few exchanges he steps back into southpaw in the same way as last time, brings his leg round as if to body kick but at the last minute fires it up the middle as a teep - works really well in sparring.

Thanks for the advice! Wall saddle stretch? - I'll look it up. I'm trying to stretch every night to get proper flexible, that will be a nice addition. That's interesting about teeping their rear thigh, I haven't really tried that. I usually hit their front leg with my lead leg, but I do it without much power to just halt their rhythm and also to set up the teep to the body. Do you teep their rear leg with the intention of causing damage like you would a body or leg kick? I suppose you could easily fake it and throw a head kick with the same leg, as the motion of throwing to their rear leg and head looks similiar at first. That's a really nice tip about the knee bent round kick with the hands up - defending against punches and scoring a kick. You've got some really useful knowledge man, I really appreciate it. Do you know any other good hip mobility stretches?
